Missing Some BEV Transponders in California

Hey, I just installed a BEV 4100 receiver and a 51cm dish at my house in California. I have great reception (80%+)on most of my transponders, but I get no reception on the following odd transponders: 3, 7, 9, 11, 17, 21, 23, 25. I've checked my wiring and there are no shorts in the system. Do I need to switch to a larger dish? Or is there some other problem I'm overlooking (location, spot beams, etc)?

Basically it's your location, the transponders you are unable to get are on N3 which is not receivable in your location.

Can I get the missing channels by adding a second dish and pointing it at 82?

82 is a diiferent satellite that has HD and some ethnic channels

The only way to get all of the channels is to get StarChoice (as noted above)

I have a 90cm dish in Louisiana with no problems seeing all the transponders at the 91 and 82 degree positions.

how far south in Louisiana?

I know Southern TX can't get it and neither can most of California. It was due to shifting the old satellite north and changin the foortprint :)

Just a heads up, check out channel 230 "Tech" . Says due to technical upgrades some channels will not be available Feb 15/16 3-7am. All the Channels Listed are on TP: 3,9,11,17,21,23. Might be the rumored move of N3 to be colocated with N2.

I have a bad feeling about this for those of us who cannot get the missing transponders on 91 :(

It would be great if any of you southeners (& Westerners) could monitor the before & after strength on those TP's to see if there is any change over the next few days. Of course Bell could just be reshuffling channels around:p .

how are they going to move a satellite 9 degrees in 4 hours?

This doesnt sound good because Nimiq1 might be able to handle the excess load but if they move N3 to 82 then the HD might go bye bye for MORE people due to the footprint.

reason they colocated N3 with N1 was to prolong the life of N1. We'll have to see what happens on the 16th

Me thinks they are retiring N1

And putting everything on N3. The reason those transponders will be down is they have to reconfigure the N3 satellite, which probably require the equivalent of a 'reboot' of it.

That would be bad for you southerners.

N3 is too crippled to use all 32 TP’s

Rumor is they are going to move everything from N3 over to N1 (N1 has enough power to last a few more years) so N1 will have all 32 TP’s working, move N3 to 82 and collocate it with N2 (N2 can’t use all 32 TP’s at once due to shorting out). When N4 becomes available, they would replace N1 with N4

If they do this, the ExpressVu people will gain the regular channels but may lose HD.

If they do that, that is end of BEV for me....and my gut tells me that is what is about to happen.

Yes, but didn't D* "lend" them this bird?

If that is the case, you can bet they did so with one of the lines of thinking to cut more HD Customers off in the states.

true.

But this is the same thing that happened when they put up N3. Alot fo the "good" channels went to N3, Southern subs left and slowly EVu moved channels to N1

Notice most of the PPV channels and porn are on N3 :)

Can't adjust elevation -- Screw too tight

Grounding the dish
