According to the great Cavaliers beat reporter Brian Windhorst, Cavs Coach Mike Brown will be named NBA Coach of the Year. The team has called a 1:30 press conference but haven’t said why.

According to Windhorst:
The league and team have refused to confirm the announcement but several sources have indicated Brown has won the honor.
If this is indeed true, nobody is more deserving. Brown’s team finished the season with a league-best 66 wins, the best in franchise history. Not only was his team an offensive juggernaut (100.3 ppg), but they led the league in defense as well (91.4 ppg). On top off all of his coaching acumen, the award couldn’t have been given to a nicer guy. The affable head man is loved by his players, the fans, and the media.

Brown’s Cavaliers are 15 wins away from their real goal, the NBA Championship.

Take LeBron off that team, and this guy is unemployed.

One player doesn't make a team. You still need a coach to keep all the ego's in check. Big Mike has instilled a defensive philosophy into this team from day 1 and got his players to buy into it. I don't believe we're in this same position with Paul Silas, John Lucus, Randy Wittman or any of the other former identity lacking coaches for the Cavs.

PS, Mike Brown was the defensive specialist under Coach Greg Popovich during the Spurs dominating runs in the early 2000's.

This team goes as LeBron goes. You know this way better than I do. Your signature says everything anybody needs to know about the Cavaliers. If LeBron doesn't buy in, nobody does.

Of course LeBron is the main reason for any success this team has, but that shouldn't discredit what Mike Brown has brought to the table either. He deserves this honor.

Wow. From the presser. It was a landslide folks.....

Brown received 55 first-place votes and earned 355 total points from a panel of 122 sports writers and broadcasters. Houston's Rick Adelman finished second with 151 points and Orlando's Stan Van Gundy was third with 150.
Cavs owner, Dan Gilbert on Mike Brown....
"Mike Brown is one of these rare people that has nearly every tool in his tool box," Gilbert said in a statement. "He is smart, hard working, and selfless. He is curious and hungry to learn. He is philosophically driven and derives his decision making from his strong philosophy.

"Mike Brown is a critical element as to why our franchise is growing into the kind of success we all envisioned and hoped to achieve. There is no man more deserving and it proves to the world that, yes, nice guys can indeed, finish first."

Congrats to coach Brown!

To the naysayers in this thread: Obviously LBJ is the main reason for the team's success, but the team chemistry is outstanding and Coach Brown has been able to gel harmoniously with the team superstar...something that doesn't always happen.

Rick Adelman was the runner-up?

Wow- I thought the coaches in Denver, Miami, or Atlanta would have been runner-up to Mike Brown.

Which should tell you how ridiculous this is...that Stan Van Gundy not even come in the top 2 or that Spolestra not be considered after winning only 15 games last year is stupid and lacks credibility. Mike Brown did an EXCELLENT job, but he had a stacked team and SHOULD have done as good if not BETTER than last years Cavs team.

Was he the best coach this year...maybe, maybe not...BUT not NO WHERE near a landslide.

This is the results of the having the best player in the league and the marketing of the best player in the NBA......Paul is absolutely right.

VERY true, but gelling "harmoniously with the team superstar"....has never been absolutely needed to win championships.

No marketing gimick. Coach Brown won this fair and square.

Orlando had a great opportunity to leapfrog Boston and get the #2 seed in the east. They faltered down the stretch and didnt do it. Cleveland had a great opportunity to get not just the #1 seed in the east but the overall #1 seed - and they seized the opportunity and did it. A lot of credit has to go to Brown, while on the otherhand that has to get held against Van Gundy.

NO....neither BROWN nor Van Gundy play....the credit and the "held accountable" goes on the players. In the end, the players did not execute...and quite frankly, NO ONE here can honestly say they thought Orlando was gonna be a top 3 seed.

EVERYONE KNEW Cleveland was.....

Did he?

We won 21 MORE games this year than last!!!!!!!!!!

By all accounts, the coach coached better and the players played better this year. It's in the numbers!

He had better personnel than last year. Every time he had an injury, he had someone to step up....and this year they had plenty. IF he would have had as many injuries last year as they did this year....if I am not mistaken, last years team would have have .500 at best.....

Huh?

Again, that's VERY debatable. Orlando was the #3 seed last year ('07-'08). That same year, Cleveland was the #4 seed.

Are you saying everyone expected Cleveland to leapfrog Orlando, Boston and Detroit this year and win 21 MORE games than the year before?! You're off your rocker ol' man!

We have 1 different player this year than last year. Mo Williams. Everyone else is the same. And don't tell me you knew Mo was going to come in and make such a difference that he did. No one outside of Milwaukee ever knew about this kid.

You apparently pay no attention to the NBA outside of your Cavs! The Heat had him just about signed the year before as a restricted free agent....but he chose to stay in Milwaukee....there were apprently 10-12 teams after this kid for the last 2 years.....he IS that good. And not to mention the lack of good quality point guards in the league, he was sought after highly!
