So, I was a longtime Dish customer up until about two years ago. Then life happened and we decided to get rid of the dish as we didnt feel we were getting our money's worth out of it. We were happy enough with the service.

Also, we have a place that we go to out in the county a few times a year that would be nice to be able to watch a movie or something on. There is no cable and even OTA is basically nill (I dont speak spanish, so the one channel we kind of get is not all that satisfying :D). So I was thinking pay per view. I still have enough old dish equipment that I could piece together a dish and a 301 and all. I plugged in the 301 and it said something like needing a new card (it's a purple one).

I was wondering if dish has any sort of ppv option without getting a plan where I could get a current card and have ppv available. A plan is not worth it to us, but we would be willing to do some ppv the few times we would get a chance to.

I could always bring a DVD player and disks, but that is a pain. Redbox is way to far away. And, just to be completely clear, I am not interested in getting a new card from the other side of the internet or doing the pirating thing in any way.

I was curious on yall's thoughts. Thanks!

Nope.

BTW, 301s only work on WA and are being phased out.

You're a Chef and you don't speak Spanish? ;)

It used to be, and I think it's still the case, that accounts on Dish Pause could still order PPV. The problem is that I don't know if Dish would restart an account or start an account and put it straight away on Dish Pause status. That and you'd still be paying $5 a month to have the account on pause along with a 6 month limit to the pause IIRC. Another option that would be less bulky than bringing your DVDs would be to rip them all to an external hard drive and bring that along with a media player box like the WDTV Live and you'd be set.

There is also the welcome pack. And I thought that the purple card was current.

Hmmmm, ripped movies and media player is a good idea.

Streaming isnt an option as the internet is not available either. :(

haha Engineer by training. The screen name is a backpacking trial name with the chef part related to how I like to cook in the backcountry. If I have hiked hard all day dont hand me a pack of stale ramen noodles. I wanna eat!

Thanks for the answers. It was basically what I thought.
