Mark Martin to take one more swing at a championship...

I didn't see it in the forum yet so I thought I'd post the link. It looks like Mark Martin will take one more swing at a championship during the 2009 NASCAR season in the number 5 Hendrick Motorsports car that will be vacated by Casey Mears at the end of the season. How many of you guys think we may see Mark make a few starts in that car by the end of the season (just to get acquainted with the pit crew, etc)?

I would not be surprised, but that would mean Hendricks would have to release Mears before the end of the season and Martin would have to be released from DEI ahead of time also. Not sure if that would happen.
They would probably have a different pit crew altogether, some will stay, but I'd imagine the team will change somewhat.

As for Mark with Hendricks, that will be great, I've always been a Martin fan, real classy guy

maybe, it was because he was one of the people clinton pardoned upon leaving the white house. in any event, my opinion of rick hendrick isn't great but his organization produces winners. and i can't think of any NASCAR driver more deserving of a championship than mark martin!!

Faking leukemia, buying a pardon, being a liar, running 100s of honest car dealers out of business (the crime for which he was convicted), taking advantage of customers in his monopoly car dealership (for which he lost multiple law suits and had to repay millions of stolen dollars). Yes, those are all reasons to dislike that guy. The day he was convicted, NASCAR should have banned him. That simple.

That and he pushes Chevrolets, which should be a crime in and of itself.

The 5 is an R&D car. Hendrick uses it to field test stuff for the 24 and 48. (The 88's role in this scheme really isn't clear yet.) So he signs the sympathetic Martin and picks up a sponsor (finding a sponsor for a car that is designed to lose is pretty hard) and there you go.

Yes, Hendrick has plenty of top stars and does not "need" the money. So? He had a multi-million dollar car dealership chain when he decided to beat the law and steal more. Its called "greed".

I find nothing sympathetic about him.
Mark was offered a ride and decided to give it a go.

The 5 may have been a r&d car with Mears, but I don't expect it to be with Martin.
Mark is a very good and experienced driver, they will not do "Testing" on it with him in it as you mentioned.
Dale Jr.s cars look very good this year, they are not the 24 or the 48 , is his car a Testing car too ?

Keep in mind, he's only running a partial schedule splitting time with Amarillo at DEI.

I was a Martin fan until he faked his retirement. I had some sympathy for him when Roush asked him back the next year and he drove the 6 part time. It was pretty clear he wasn't really quitting when he sought a ride the year after that. Now he's back to a full time ride? At least Rusty meant it when he said he was done. I don't dislike him, it's just the whole emotional retirement thing was a load, if you don't retire.

I agree the #5 is the test car. It may be just what they need, an experienced driver in it to tell them what's working and what isn't. And the #88's role seems to be that of the best team in the organization, so far this year.

I am torn!!!!
Mark was my favorite driver until yesterday, he was with a great organization with roush and even with and even did not have a bad ride with Ginn and DEI. Now he is with the biggest cheaters in Nascar ( yes rick has enough money to pay off the France family). Rick Hendrick is the Scumball of the Earth and is known to cheat, hell he hired a big cheate chad knaus. Hopefully mark will win and gordon johnson and JR will fail.

Let's review. Faking leukemia. Lying to a grand jury. Paying bribes to Honda executives to run 100s of smaller time Honda dealers out of business. Lying in court. Using other unfair business practices to run many others out of business. Using his local monopoly power to cheat consumers. Standing up at the WINSTON Cup banquet and saying "the government is persecuting me because of my politics." After conviction, "donatiating" millions of dollars to the head of that government on his last day in office to BUY a pardon. And is just his personal life, leaving out the stuff he had done to the sport itself.

By all means, please post the way worse figures names?

Angelos? Vick? The Pac Criminal? Jerry Jones? All small fry compared to Hendrick, the most disgusting crook in any sport today.
