This one seems like the one they spoke about on other forums based on the specs below.
The RC 1978 came as a total surprise and I was hoping that they had not changed their minds in bringing out a receiver that people had asked for.

I have heard that it also will play the ACM Music Choice channels on 125w many have asked about, but I can not confirm this for sure as I received that info from a 2nd hand source.

Wish someone would actually come out with one of those cases!
I for one would purchase one that is made for Satellite/internet and not wait for some bureaucrats to get off their duffs and approve something that we may never see.
I would personally buy a 4K unit now, without a 3.0 tuner.
If in the future one would come out with a 3.0 tuner then we could upgrade but I doubt that would appear on the market for another year so IMO please release one now without the 3.0 tuner.
I too would like to purchase a 4K box now with DVB S2/Internet and option to add an ATSC 3.0 tuner. IMHO, anyone who needs an ATSC tuner already has one so for most people it would be a waste of monies to pay for an ATSC 1.0 tuner. Better off selling the 4K "triple play" boxes now with S2 tuner and internet capabilities and letting the end user put those monies toward an ATSC 3.0 tuner when it becomes available should they want one.
As a beta tester for the HiSilicon based 4K box, can you share any comments about using the dedicated Android app vs. Kodi for DVB-S2? Any luck with CBS 4:2:2 feeds?

I was looking on another forum and it appears that Jeff from Manhattan is not too up on what the 4k receiver he is planning on selling, will be doing or not doing. (has he actually seen and used one???)
There is some miscommunications about 4:2:2 then the ATCS 3.0 which he is insistent on so I highly doubt we will see a real 4k receiver from Manhattan anytime soon.

I was under the impression that ATSC 3.0 was for OTA and not satellite broadcasting?
Yes and he wants to wait till the FCC clears up the technical details which can be a long time.
Personally I think he is shooting himself in the foot with FTA satellite users on this as most do not seem to care about OTA, and even with that, how many OTA stations will actually show a 4k signal?
As well in Canada we are always way behind the USA when it comes to implementing new technology. 4K and ATSC 3.0 OTA won't be here until way past the time the USA rolls it out if at all!
After reading a bunch about the 4K receiver I hold little to no hope of it being a receiver I'd purchase. First it would do 4.2.2 then it wouldn't, then they weren't sure, then they didn't know what it was and claimed it was being phased out and was only used in North America. Then the whole discussion of the tuner. First it was going to be a socket type that you could swap to an atsc 3.0 tuner in the future then it had to be strictly a 3.0 tuner. Then they asked, as they did here if we even wanted a tuner, then after it appeared most of us would rather have the new 4K receiver they decide it will have an atsc 3.0 tuner and the stb will be delayed until tuners are available.
Now far be it for me to begrudge someone from making their own business decisions, and I had a lot of high hopes for this receiver but it now appears that much of the things that originally made it appealing to me won't even be in the receiver now.
What I'm looking for, and I suspect many others do as well, is a solid dvbs2 receiver with as many options to receive as many signals and be reliable and user friendly. Currently the hole you can get so me 4K boxes now they sure ain't user friendly, and I don't know of anything other then used or a PC Card for 4.2.2. If someone brought a stb to market with both of these options and it was stable and user friendly there would definitely be a market. I sure wish the folks at manhattan good luck but after all the back and forth I'll not be an early adopter of the 4K box until I see how it performs and have read some reviews by many of the fine folks in the community. Just my 2 cents

Sad to say that it has appeared to go downhill when pressed for specifics.
Makes one wonder if they know what people are asking for or if they care when bringing a receiver to market.
The hype is blown away once the questions begin to be answered.
I have my doubts on seeing a decent 4k receiver this year also, at this point in time.
I bet the new receiver will do 4k alright, might pull in the trouble tp's (movies decades and H&I), and do the same thing all the other receivers do plus an ATSC 3.0 tuner and maybe some ip tv channels and kodi. But if it still has trouble with the trouble tp's, and no 4.2.2 i cant see investing another couple hundred dollars in a new receiver for currently 4 by my count demo 4k channels, especially if i already have 5 or 6 receivers that cant receive the trouble tps, dont do 4.2.2, and a wetek play 2 that is also 4k. If, and its a big if, there were more channels broadcasting in 4k and you were to the point that you had to have the new ota tuner it could be a receiver that would be a possibility.
I grant you i dont know all the ins and outs of specing out a receiver that will receive, decode and play 4.2.2 but it sure seems to be the holy grail in terms of STB both here in the US and in Europe as it seems the first question i see asked about any new receiver is will it do 4.2.2. Seems there is a market for a box that would do it just nothing to fill that void save a tuner card for pc. I suppose a person could build a micro pc and use that for your receiver but then it wouldnt be "easy" nor user friendly let alone affordable. I guess im kinda irritated that the discussions 4 or 5 months ago more or less promised it would do 4.2.2 and now its like they dont know anything about 4.2.2 nor that there ever was a demand for 4.2.2.
I havent found any new azbox units, only used. I just looked on ebay and see 2 of the units you described used for 299 plus shipping. Now to me 300 bucks plus shipping (and an adapter) for a used receiver is steep but should indicate that they have value because they receive 4.2.2. Id happily pay 300 bucks for a new 4k receiver that did 4.2.2 that had guarantee and was north american supported.
This thread is a confusing mix between a new receiver that is now available, a yet to be developed receiver that may be sold in the future and a receiver wish list. Maybe a moderator could sort this thread out for the RC-1978 related information and move the rest into a new appropriate thread?

Since a "professional" PCIe card runs in the $200 range, high end video card in the $400 range, plus the PC with decent MB and processor can be in the $800 range... Then there is software and configuring everything... This can become more than a career very quickly.
$300 for an STB that does 4:2:2 is not a bad deal as long as it works... Certainly wouldn't expect to pay less for a new STB that does that and 4K well. I really don't care about IPTV or U-tube, or even ATSC since I already have a network receiver for that (would upgrade for ATSC-3 eventually anyway). Just a satellite receiver that's up-to-date with modulations and formats we are now seeing show up, and CSA/FCC certifications etc for this part of the world (NA).
