I read somewhere about the Humax Icord HD, and it supposedly would do 4:2:2 as well as HD. Is that confirmed? Where can it be purchased?

Since the AZbox thread was getting off topic though I'd start a new one. The Humax Icord HD was mentioned. I did some research on this one available from UK distributor, unless I missed something I didn't see anything in the specs about 4:2:2 or blind scan. I've got to have at least blind scan for FTA North America.

this threads topic is about the Azbox and Openbox..I don't like to see threads go off topic myself and I'm sure the staff here would not appreciate it either.

Ok Woofy, new receiver thread. Spill the beans about the Manhattan!!:)

Pixl, The few menu pics I saw of the Manhattan looked very close the openbox menus...Openbox doesn't do 4:2:2 and I doubt Manhattan will either. The Manhattan at least will have USA support which if priced right will be a plus over the Openbox. I'm going to Google the Humax and see what I find....Blind

Thank you for starting a new thread Pixl. :) lol

First..I don't think anyone has ever said the Manahattan RS 1933 would do 4:2:2 ..The ALI chipset will not allow that. This is an affordable box for those that can't afford the cash for an Azbox or don't need 4:2:2 like myself and many others.

Yes the menu navigation is much the same as the Openbox..But it's not some clone box.

The menu's in most boxes have similar navigation, just with different graphics or features.

This is a made in the USA box as well as supported in the USA box!

It's about 3/4 the size of an Openbox for comparison. and much better made, sturdy and sleek and runs as cool as a cucumber!

HD picture is in my eyes superior to the Openbox, AC3 works just fine through HDMI and no green tint issue that some have with composite like the OB..Just does not exist.

The clock actually works for recording and does not shut off after doing so.
Playback and dvr features for a beta box is surprisingly excellent.

Is it perfect..no..Does it need work..yes...and that is why beta testing is done.

Keep in mind the box I have is beta and the production model will have double the memory and new software..The best part in my view is the support is local and any problems will be fixed as best they can! They do listen and are great people to deal with.

I hope I answered some of your questions.:)

Blind,

The lack of 4:2:2 isn't a big deal for me. Other than some of the CBS stuff, I rarely run across a feed I want to watch. I was hoping the Manhattan or other new receiver would address my short list of probs. with the OpenBox.

No polarity or freq. range selection during blind scan.
No support for SW-21
Lack of a "delete all ch's" for one sat.
No way to manually key in pids.
No way to telnet in thru network connector.
Green tint on the AV output.

This stuff is fairly minor but if the next box that comes along fixes this I'll want one.

EDIT: In the time I was typing this Woofy answered some of my concerns. Thanks

I just went to the Manhattan website and did some research on the forthcoming RS 1933 receiver. Took a look at the Owner Manual, and it seems like a very nice unit. I like it so far, it is smaller than the Openbox, and it seems to have everything that I want/need. Now if the price is close to the Openbox, then that might be the one of my choice.

I have waited this long for an upgrade, and one more month is not going to make much of a difference.

avenger.

Isn't most of the S2 stuff in 4:2:2? I was under the assumption that much of the S2 is in the 4:2:2 format. Thats the only downside I see to the Manhatten.

So will a Manhatten Box be able to see the RAW... RAW feeds which are in S2 4:2:2?

Is yes then I may be interested in one. :)

I would love to see an automatic blind scan feature where at night it scans the skies and blindscans each satellite unattended, that would be COOL.

Oh yes..it sees the RAW right now...the unattended Blindscan is being worked on right now..But so far can only be done in the daylight hours.

Sorry to disappoint...:)

I dont know what exactly Scott is talking about. If he is talking about Raw feeds (as in anything out there) or the "WWE Monday Night Raw" feeds

If its 4:2:2 from noted above the Manhatten wont get it

Yea, not sure either Iceberg..I thought it was sarcasm possibly..Hence my sarcasm.. Some had said that the Manhattan would not see a raw 4.2.2 feed..only a black screen, but I can say that is not the case...just the same as the Openbox view and can be recorded if desired and played back on a PC.

Testing a Manhattan beta box and it blindscans just as fast as the openbox. They are working hard on the software, and the support will be better as support is in the USA.

Woofy, How did you get to be a beta tester for the Manhattan?
I want to be like you when I grow up.

First thing is not to grow up....:) spoils the fun.

Once you have been around a while..people find you, ;)

This is a made in the USA box

You might want to verify this.... Supported? Yes. Built? No.

I am sure that this model of the Manhattan is being designed, refined and supported by folks in the US, but definitely made elsewhere. :D

Wish that it would be possible to manufacture this type of product in the US, but it just isn't an economic reality. :(
