Interesting show, but I am trying to cut back on watching TV myself.

CBS Madam Secretary sprang from Hillary Clinton and Benghazi, Executive Producer says

In Madam Secretary, Tea Leoni plays Elizabeth McCord, a former CIA analyst who becomes the shrewd, determined, newly appointed Secretary of State, driving international diplomacy, battling office politics, and circumventing protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues both at the White House and at home. This is not to be confused with NBC’s new State Of Affairs, in which Katherine Heigl plays a tough CIA analyst, who presents the U.S. President’s daily briefing on security issues facing the country, or ABC’s returning Scandal, in which Kerry Washington plays the White House’s favorite tough-as-nails crisis manager/creator.

CBS is giving viewers two chances to catch the premiere of drama "Madam Secretary" on Sept. 21, slotting a quickie repeat of the Tea Leoni series for later that night.
The Eye's lineup that night will start at 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. CT), following late-afternoon coverage of "The NFL on CBS," which will be highlighted by a Super Bowl rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos.

The season premiere of "60 Minutes" at 7:30 p.m. ET will benefit from that huge lead-in, and CBS will follow the newsmag with the debut of "Madam Secretary" (8:30 p.m.) and the season opener of "The Good Wife" (9:30). The second helping of "Madam Secretary" will air from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. ET.

As previously announced, "CSI," which is moving to Sunday at 10 this fall, will kick off its season on Sept. 28.

On the West Coast, "60 Minutes" will start at 7 p.m., with "Madam Secretary" airing at both 8 and 10.

Wow! What a way to start a new series. Thanks to football I only got 24 minutes of the program recorded the rest was 60 Minutes. The funniest part was a message from the local CBS affiliate telling people that "Madam Secretary would be on at 7pm. central time. Of course that message came about 40 minutes after the program was supposed to start(7:37).

What little I got to watch didn't catch my interest.

I was reading an article last night, and you comment validates it. It can be anticipated that this show´s ratings, both live and days after, will be affected by football spillover into its scheduled time slot.
The article mentioned precisely what happened to you, many folks will set their dvr´s to record it, only to find out later it wasn´t recorded or in best case scenario only part of the show was recorded.
Anyway, I´m OK with the show for now, and I will be interested in checking out its ratings.

I forgot to mention that the pilot brought me some good memories about the months I lived in Swaziland.
The episode shows the Secretary offering a dinner for the King of Swaziland and his many wives.
Back in the day when I was living there, he had 9 wives I think, now he has 15. Crazy.....:D

I learned years ago to extend any recording that comes on after a sporting event at least 1 hour. When I was recording Amazing Race on Sunday nights I always put 1 additional hour into my season pass.

Not bad ratings for the premiere, it was actually higher than what I anticipated.

1.9 and 14.28.
The Wife had 1.3 and 9.95

I would think CBS would be smart enough to schedule some sort of talk show after football games so they could juggle their schedule to have PRIME TIME always start on time. Something like a football wrap up that could last for 22 minutes or 45 minutes what ever it takes to get to 9 eastern or 8 eastern then start their PRIME TIME then so they can maintain a schedule.
