Does anyone here think that the hack market will benefit from the loss of distants on dish?

If Dish could shut down the Pirate Market, Dish and its retailers would benefit. Thats about all we should say about it here.

Yeah, I realize that dish-direc. I am just asking if people here think that people who had distants might start exploring other methods to get the distants again. I'm not saying I advocate it and I don't think I am going to give anyone any ideas. Obviously if any of the mods think this is not a good idea for a poll, then they can delete it. I won't have any hard feelings.

The hack market is so big already, and this would probably just add some more to the massive amount, does anyone bring this fact to the courts, channels should pull there service from Dish if they don't fix there security issues, ppv and stuff like that should not be on Dish.

What is the current estimated number of non-subscribing viewers?

BTW, I did vist a site that caters to this market today, guess what the big talk is all about and guess how many posts are about how to start up and get a receiver going. Seems like it is not taking people long to become thieves.

laff, I bet most of them morally justify it by saying "Well I still have a subscription, I just want my distants back."

I believe that it would increase the number of hackers because they cannot legally subscribe to those stations so they would have to go this route to get the networks. Having an NPS solution would cut down on hacking. So the cost to dish would be more than what some may realize if fewer people can get the networks without the NPS solution.

Hackers will probably be up the creek too if Dish moves the NY/LA distants to spotbeams. There's no reason for them to be on the main satellite anymore either.

Probably more than there are legal subs :) ever go to one of there forums? they have like 10x the number of members than any legal satellite forum.
More than legal subs ?? No way.... It's just that those groups are more "active" in their "hobby". I mean, you think this site has a lot of members ?? Assuming everyone here was a Dish customer, which isn't the case, it's only a 1/2 percent of Dish's total customers. This site is made up of Dish, Directv, FTA, cable, OTA, etc, etc users. And the 60,000+ members is not active members either. If someone signed up years ago and never visited again, they're still counted...

everybodys just looking for a handout, and society is just gonna get worse over time imho
i think the easiest solyution is to have a super locals pack for like 15-20 dollars a month make it affordable for everyone that wants distants
for god sakes if canada can get channels thoughout canada and some us cities
why the hell can that be done in usa?
not ragging on canada but if there is no problem with distants there, there should be no problem here

But hackers would be able to pick up the SF and ATL nets from 119. :)

Yeah, these are going to have to be full conus. Plus, they could pickup what ever they could on their spot beam. If you look at some of those spots, there is quite a bit of locals people could pick up. Also, aren't alot of the locals on the other sats on full conus too? Maybe I read some of the charts wrong, but 61.5 still has Providence RI, 105, 121,129 are all full conus for locals right now correct?

I might be completley wrong on the sats charts, but that is how interpret the ekb chart. Please correct me if I am wrong.

reason is 95% of the OTA stations in Canada are owned by the Network so CBC Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton etc are the same

The only affiliates on satellite are
CBC-Thunder Bay, CHEX Peterborough, CKWS Kingston, Lloydminster, Prince George
CTV-Lloydminster, Kenora, Thunder Bay
CH-Kamloops

Bell actually blacks out the other stations in the time zone if you live in one of these local areas. So TB gets blacked out on Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa if the same program is on TB...SC does not :)

affiliate not on satellite-CKX Brandon

NY/LA will stay CONUS untill after The Suprem Court either hears or rejects the case and or the satellite consumer protection act gets voted on.

You are correct. Of all the Dish satellites, only the 110 and 119 birds currently have spotbeams. Locals from many markets are on 61.5, 105, 121, 129 and 148. There are an estimated 4 million FTA receivers out there capable of receiving them.

So why Has dish taken No Legal Action ? I mean they have a Good Basis for at least filing one > Just curious why they sit Idle by with this FTA Crap?

So You Know

So why Has dish taken No Legal Action ? I mean they have a Good Basis for at least filing one > Just curious why they sit Idle by with this FTA Crap?
Because they probably invested into FTA, and FTA can be used to view legal channels free, and also because dish is as guilty as the FTA manufacturers. They were seeing and selling channels illegally too.

Dish Survey

Roof Leak from dish... I pay for it, AND to move Dish?
