DALLAS, Aug 8 (Reuters) - A Dallas family has sued satellite television provider DirecTV after a man making a service call at their home was found to be a registered sex offender who took photos of their 12-year-old daughter, their lawyer said on Friday.

DirecTV said the man had absolutely no affiliation with the company and was brought to the house by a contractor, who has since been fired for violating company policy, spokeswoman Jade Ekstedt said in an email.

Wahren Scott Massey, 48, was arrested as a result of the August 2012 incident.

Massey pleaded guilty in October to attempted indecency with a child and attempted sexual performance of a child for the pictures he took of the girl. He was sentenced to four years in prison, according to legal documents.

A lot of people dont get it that if you order from DIRECTV or even DISH that the people coming to your house are normally NOT DIRECTV or DISH employees, but subcontractors from various installation companies.

Not to downplay the seriousness of this issue, but if most people downloaded an app to their iPhone or Android device that actually showed the number of sex offenders in their area, I think they might be quite negatively surprised by the results. I know I was.

Dish is going more and more in house. In my region I cover there are only a hand full of retailers left that have subcontractors. Even those that are left hate that Dish has hired in multiple qas' s just in the past year. There are two running around my region now were as before there wasn't any in house qas's.

Even more surprising to me is the number of offenders that have no officially known address.

I have a neighbor that had purchased land and had a house custom built with a pool and a minibike track and the PO still couldn't seem to find him.

I was too but that list can be a joke also. I have daughters & am very concerned about this but that list also contains people who have taken a leak behind a public building, some 18 year old caught dating a 16 year old & other minor silly infractions that an over zealous or pissed off cop have decided to put a label on a charge leading to someone being put on the list.

I want a list showing me serious sexual offenders that we really should be fearing & not one where a kid made a silly mistake in judgment some years back. That way when I look it up I won't be seeing dots like I just searched for how many Fords are in my area. That being said, I'm always around an installer when they come to my home, I trust none of them to be roaming around by themselves.
