Looking to get DISH

But I have a few questions first. When they specify free equipment and installation, what am I really getting? I want to get HD and NHLCI as my most important items. The thing I am still not fully understanding is the concept of the various satellites and different positions. I am guessing the new best thing to get is the super dish because it gets all satellites...? Are things like this free? I see many people with 2 satellites and such. I am hoping to get away with just one, the super dish, but I hope it is free. When I sign up and a guy comes out can he assess what my signal strength will be before I get the satellit installed. I dont want to get it and then have bad signals. What happens if I move, will they move it for me for free? a guy at my work told me D* did this for him for free when he moved to ohio from california. Is the 722 a newer DVR replacing the much hyped 622? For now these are the questions that remain before I take the plunge from my dreaded COX cable. Thanks for any and all input!

If NHLCI is very important to you, you may want to check out the thread linked below regarding the current situation. Currently you can't order the NHLCI from Dish but there has been talk about contract negotiations that will be complete by the beginning of the season. But I wouldn't sign up with Dish until you know for sure what is going on with NHLCI.

You get everything free including installation. But you do not own it, You pay a monthly lease fee. The 722 is replacing the 622. Specify that you will only sign up if you get the 722. No 722 , no deal. Also, there is a monthly lease fee, but if you keep the 722 connected to a phone line the lease fee is waived on the first receiver. $5 per month for each receiver over the 722. You do not say where in the USA that you live, but that will determine what kind of Dish or dishes that you get. The installer can check with a compass to be sure that your dishes can see the sats before installation. Running the wires outside and through one outside wall is free. A more complicated installation like fishing wires thrugh walls might cost you somje dollars. Moving can be free, but I don not know much about that, someone else may be able to answer that.

You don't get FREE installation, you get free STANDARD installation. Unusual situations and extras are not free.

Sorry about that, Cleveland Ohio.

You will need a Dish 1000 to get SportsTime Ohio in HD.

Note that Dish Network currently does not offer Cleveland HD locals or FSN Ohio HD, DirecTV and presumably your local cable provider do. You may be able to receive your HD locals with an OTA antenna.

I don`t know where some of these guys are getting their information but with dish there is no longer a lease fee. The first tuner/room is included in the price of the programming package that you choose and if you connect a phone line the 2nd tuner off of the 722 or 622 is also free with no monthly fee. In order to have a superdish installed free you will be required to be in a market that requires a superdish as you can not just inadvertently request a superdish if it is not necessary to obtain your programming. Many markets simply require the dish 1000.2 which is sufficient for multiple HD receivers and will receive the 3 satellites necessary for any US programming. You will not be charged any fees for installation unless you get one of the less than honest installation companies or you require a special mount or something additional in the way of wiring that is not necessary for a normal professional installation of your receivers.

OK, then here is the million dollar question and I think I already knwo the answer but to make myself sleep easy, I need to ask. If I get CI from COX and then switch to Dish in a month or two, Do I have to pay for it all over again? CI comes from Indemad but I guess since Dish is still negotiating it is a totally different contract from cable to satellite. The season start this weekend and I want HD CI, but I havent 100% made up my mind to make the switch.

I have also come up with another question. When people have multiple satellite feeds into the say 722, this is all still possible with the 1 satellite correct? also, how many actual cable need to be run from the satellite into the house? also, when people speak of needing a phone line, does that mean a real phone line or do these things finally work with VoIP, I mean it is 2007 and all.

Any more thoughts on these latest questions...plus i am quite nervous to sign an 18 month contract with no word on the NHL, but at the same time I dont want to miss out on the discounted package either for CI, if I wait...

I'm not sure what ci is but you can go directy to the dish network site and use their dishbuilder and order thru dish directly to get the best deal. you can get the dvr advantage with locals and HD for 2 tv's 1 hd 1 sd for 69.99 a month with no contract for a one time set up fee of 49.99 .that would be for a 722, then if you don't like it you can quite at any time. I have always gone thru them directly and was always very happy with their service. also the good thing about dvr advantage is it comes with the protection plan and the price is guaranteed till 09

If you purchase NHL CI through the cable company, it will not transfer to dish. Some VOIP works some doesn't. Yes the 722 can be fed with one cable from the lnb to the receiver provided it is the correct type of lnb (Dish Pro Plus)

I am fairly definitely going to be calling these guys tonight or tomorrow...most likely going through dishstore unless someone says otherwise, however I have a question about Dish's website.

DISH Network's Free Offer!

  • NO Equipment to Buy
  • FREE Multi-Room Installation!
  • FREE DISH Home Protection Plan
  • 100% Digital Programming
  • FREE Upgrade to a DVR 510/625
  • FREE High Definition Mpeg-4 Vip211
  • New High Definition DVR Mpeg-4 Vip622
  • FREE LIFETIME Equip. Warranty

If they are saying free equipment warranty, does that mean I don't have to pay for the equipment protection...? I will pay for the 6 dollar thing which offers free moving since I do plan to be moving within like 6 months, however, what happens if my new house offers no good site? Do I pay for a service I am not receiving till my 18 months is up?

if you sign up at the dish website you have the option to pay for the install which is $49.99 and not have to sign a 18 month contract. which is what you could do just in case you new house can not get dish. also the dhpp covers your equipment and dish mover . here is a couple links to help but you should go to the site to be sure, you can also use their online chat that way you might be chating with someone in usa http://www.dishtv.com/builder06.jsp http://www.dishtv.com/builder06.jsp

So I am looking to order DISH this weekend but I was curious if the DISH DVR 722 works with IP phone, to get the $5 discount, or do you need a real land line? Also, with dish store do you get the 6 months free HD? Or is that a part of all the rebates they are sending you totalling the 300-some bucks. I want to make sure I am ordering from the best place possible. Straight from Dish or dishstore? looking to have at least 1 722 and then like a second HD receiver. How much does a second 722 add to the bill?

hey guys- i'm with directv and have been researching switching to dish - i notice a lot about multiple sats/ dishes to receive all channels and i'm a bit confused - i'm in the chicago area - deerfield to be exact - about 28 miles north of the city. would i need anything special for AEP, center ice and HD?

thanks !
ps - to smakovits - if you haven't seen it yet= dish WILL have centre ice- we're still waiting to hear about NHL Network and showing both feeds of games... and you have till 10/9 to get 'early bird' discount of $20 off - and its a free preview till then

The 722 can be hooked up directly to Internet through the Ethernet port to keep from getting the $5 fee.

If you do the 18 month contract you get the DHPP protection free for that time. If you move during the 18 months into a house with No line of site then you can cancel but will have to pay the 13.33 a month remaing on the contract.
