Not sure how much better the output will be if the tapes were recorded via regular VHS in the first place but heres one on close out.

The issue you are going to have is that a VCR that has s-video outputs is a "S-VHS" player and uses special tapes. I have heard that normal VHS tapes can be modified to work as S-VHS tapes by drilling a hole in a certain place but have not tried it.
