In a deal signed at MIPCOM 2005, Icon Animation has signed a deal to bring its animated series LOLA & VIRGINIA (52x11) to Disney Channel Italy, adding to the earlier acquisition of the series by Disney Channel Spain. The series, which is targeted at girls 8-12, has already pre-sold to Nickelodeon Channel Latin America, Disney Channel Spain, RCTV Venezuela and Animania USA.

Christophe Goldberger, head of distribution at Icon Animation said, “We’ve had tremendous interest in the show and are delighted to have the Disney Channel Italy on board. There is a place in the market for a girl’s property with distinctive design and strong characterization and we are confident that the series will be a great success with audiences worldwide. We are looking forward to signing further deals with broadcast and licensing partners over the coming months.”

Patricia Hidalgo, programming director, Walt Disney Television Italia, “We have been following development of this series since its presentation in Cartoon Forum Varese and acquisition by Disney Channel Spain. We are very happy with the scripts, storylines and first animated episode, we are certain it will be a very good addition to our schedule as it will be very appealing to our girl audience without excluding our boys as it deals with everyday teen growing up issues that are common to both sexes in a humoristic manner that both will be able to identify with.”

The Flash series in 16:9 and HD is based on the original concept by Myriam Ballesteros, founding partner of Icon Animation together with Sergi Reitg. The series is a co-production between Icon Animation, Millimages, France 3, TV Catalunya and ETB. Icon Animation holds all distribution rights worldwide except for France, French-speaking Switzerland, Benelux, the U.K., Ireland, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand, which are held by Millimages.

Life isn’t always easy for Lola, taking care of her snotty siblings and putting up with her crazy group of friends. She considers herself the local princess, until Virginia barges into her life. Virginia is a stuck-up kid who has it all — beauty, all the boyfriends she could ever want, good grades and stinking rich parents who never refuse her anything. Their relationship soon involves alliances, strategies and betrayal. In the end, Lola is the good girl, but she's not a saint either.

Barcelona-based Icon Animation (www.icon-animation.com) is a leading producer and distributor of animated series. Its productions incorporate the latest technologies (including HD) as it develops properties for cross media exploitation (TV, video, licensing, merchandising and publishing). Icon Animation distributes worldwide a catalogue of more than 500 half hours of kids programs, including animated feature films.
