Hi,
I want to add dtv to my ice fishing bobhouse (I'm a gadget Guy). It looks like the programming I like is on sat 101. My receiver was just upgraded due to the local HD upgrade. Can I use this upgraded receiver with an older dish to pick up sat 101? I don't need the HD.
With the local HD on a different sat will the sd locals get moved or will I be able to get the sd locals still off sat 101.
Thanks for any advice.

It appears your SD locals were on 72.5, so when they upgraded you, you now get them all from the Ka (MPEG4) sats instead. (didn't you notice that you previously had 2 18" dishes on your house  ) And actually, your SD locals (along with 8 other markets) are getting ready to be totally removed from 72.5 before the end of this year as well.

So bottom line is, no you will NOT get any locals with the single 18" dish pointed to 101, sorry.
(there is ONE exception - you would get WMUR-9, since it is a "neighboring local" that IS on 101, & that is only if your cabin is still within that spot beam)

I have a related question. My locals are Toledo OH and I have a Slimline 3 on my house.

When I take my HD box (I have SD service) to my camper on the other side of the state I can't get a signal for my locals. The two 18"round are showing excellent signals from 101 and 72.5. Too far away from my locals? Wrong antennas? Any suggestions?

Thanks

If everything is hooked up correctly as you stated, then most likely you're outside of your "home" spot beam for your locals.

Thanks you very much for the information. I didn't realize there was such a thing as a "spot beam". For my purposes, I would rather have the national locals instead. Any idea how to do that?

None of the 72.5 signals ARE spot beams, so that's not it.

aladrian - did you change the settings on your HD box to "show SD duplicates" when you hooked it up to your campsite dishes? Also, did you remember to change the dish settings on setup, to include 72.5 dish? If you didn't do that, that's why you're not seeing them.

But it really doesn't matter much at this point; 72.5 will be going bye-bye sometime next year, so I wouldn't even mess with it. But being on the other side of the state, you're STILL probably going to be too far away for your home locals - even with the correct dish at your campsite.

If you have a camper, you CAN get the NY/LA nets, but you'll have to get an RV waiver from D*; you can find it here: (& they DO cost extra)

I did change to 18' round and 72.5. (The dish I used for 72.5 is a KTI that is slightly vertically oval....real close to the 18" round though).

I did not change to show SD duplicates. Where is that?

Great info. about the RV waiver. The lady at direct told me I had to go sign up with Trac Vision or some other provider for that....Nice.
