hi, i tried all day to install a ku/ka 5lnb that has 4 ports but only using 1. (h21-200 receiver) I've tried searching everywhere but no luck or links are expired. new to the slimline but installed dtv in past. so what am i doing wrong. fyi tried professional dtv wont mount on poll in yard. and landlord wont let me mount on house. so trying solo here goes. my steps:
1. got my elev. tilt and azim.
2. installed the dish to step 1.
3. using receiver signal strength to get signal. (got nothing)
4. downloaded phone app to help point to satellites (no luck ? )
5. said screw it went on my own trial and error. ( got 119 signal of 98%)
6. problem is the others are at 0%

my questions:
1. dish configuration settings: dish type: 04: slimline-5 switch type: 02: multiswitch ...... is this correct.
2. how do i get signal to others.

any help would be great!

WELCOME to the Site !

Your settings are correct ...
So what are you setting the dish up on, tripod ? House, Pole ?
Make sure the mast is plumb, this is important seeing your pointing 23, 000 miles away.
Try finding the 101 Sat first, if you can get that, the rest tend to pretty much fall into place.

:welcome to Satelliteguys mppats1!

You say Directv won't install on a pole? Why not? Are you using a pole now? Are you sure it's plumb? Are you using the magnetic compass numbers? What are the signal strength numbers you are showing for 119?

thanks jimbo. i'm mounting on a abandoned telephone pole in middle of yard. im up 30-40 ft up it. i can see sw sky but a tall tree is in area. mast was plumb and solid. cant get 101 . app has it at the tree. but if i got 119 shudn't 101 be close.. or maybe tree is factor.

thanks chip. installer says liability. i think bs. i said whats difference falling from house vs a pole on the property. compass on phone. 98% for 119

Personally, I would get it off the phone pole ... theres a reason thats been abandoned ....

I would put up a pole on the ground where you have LOS and be done with it.

The installer just didn't want to install the pole ...
Make sure you use concrete when placing the pole, and that it's plumb.

Oh, you meant a telephone pole! I thought you meant a metal pole in the ground. Why not go with that? When I asked for signal strength numbers, I meant for all of the transponders on 119.

It's quite likely you are not actually getting 119, the receiver just thinks you are, but you are actually pointed at the wrong satellite.. That's why we need to see the signal strengths for all 119 transponders.

Installer wasn't giving you BS, he's keeping his job. We don't install to phone poles, or any utility poles for that matter. If there is a LOS on the ground a pole could be installed but judging what you're saying, you don't have LOS. The 119 is way off from the 101, if the 101 is in a tree you might as well think of other tv options.

And FYI, I would NOT climb a 40 foot pole to install a dish, that's beyond a smart decision. That's actually the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard a customer ask and then believe the installer is just being lazy or something.

Do I need this Zinwell device?

Why does neither satellite provider provide C-Span 3?
