Just curious. Are most LNBs compatible or proprietary? For example, say you have a dual on a Dish500 you used for getting intl on 61.5, could you turn it to some other sat (DirecTV, Voom, Sky, or other) and use the same LNB and their receiver to get service. I know the difference between a DBS and FSS LNB, but was just curious if certain satellite companies use proprietary LNBs. Thanks.

E* DishPro LNBs are proprietary. Their Legacy LNBs are standard. Look for the DP logo.
D* has a special LNB for 'Sat C' that can only be used for that purpose.

DISH uses a different switching technology than Directv so if you have a Legacy Twin or Quad by DISH it won't work on Directv. As Simon said Dish Pro won't work with anything except DISH. Directv uses a rectangular shaped mount for most of it's dishes DISH Network uses a "D" shaped mount for it's LNBs so it won't fit Directv dishes. Directv LNBs can be adapted to fit DISH "D" tubes with a little work.
A DirecTV dish can be "adapted" to fit Dish LNBF's with a little work with tin snips as well. 
The Dish legacy dual LNBF's are pretty much identical in function to the DirecTV dual so in single-dish setups they work the same and will work with any DBS (not FSS or C-band) signal you can point them at. If you have multiple satellite locations, the switching technology is different.
