Leno To Pace Daytona 500

Between his car collection, and the car-related things (like this) he gets to do, I do believe he is my hero.

At the very least, his collecting habits will be the model of my post-lottery winning life (should that day ever come) :D

He has driven the pace car at Daytona before. Not sure if it was the Firecracker or the 500. I gotta get back there, the last one I was at in Daytona was the day #3 left us and then the whole sport changed.

I got to go last year for the first time...it is an amazing spectacle of a week!

most likely hd lite on dish and direct. you will need a provider who transmits the channel in true hd format.

Like my OTA antenna ???
I have been watching Nascar in HD on NBC for the past year and a few at the end of 2004. :)

Of course it was on different OTA network then, but I have seen Nascar on NBC last year

Unfortunately, my NBC affiliate divides their ATSC broadcast into 16:9 and 4:3 sub-channels OF THE EXACT SAME THING! Stoopid, stoopid, stoopid!

Sorry I had to yell there, but it would be passibly acceptable if they had two separate feeds (two different revenue streams) like the CBS/UPN affiliate.

According to Autoweek, it appears the Corvette pace car will be a stock 1996 Z06 (all they needed to change was the paint!):

Usually they have to modify these pace cars somehow to make them at least stay out of the way on the racetrack. So what needed changing on this one?
Paint, apparently, was the only thing necessary to make it go around the high banks of Daytona. That, and hire a driver, which they did in the form of the ever-more ubiquitous Jay Leno. He came cheap.

“I don’t need money,” Leno said. “I have a day job, so I already have a lot of money, but to drive at Daytona? You can’t buy that.”

Because Daytona is a restrictor-plate race, this year’s pace car will actually have more power than the cars in the race.

“That’s right, it does,” said Leno. “They have that weenie restrictor plate.”

Edit: Rats! I don't seem to be able to link in the IMG. It leaves it as a link instead of the actual picture.
