Well, after 10 continuous years with D*, I am switching to Dish for more HD.

I have a few questions maybe someone could help me with:

1. With a Dish1000, two 211's & 1 611 w/dual inputs, will I need a DP34 switch or will I run four wires from LNB's directly to the STB's as I am now with my D* 3 sat dish?

2. What signal levels should I get in Eastern Missouri on each of the three sats, 110,119 & 129 respectively?

3. Given that the HD on E* is equal or better in PQ than D*, will I be happy with the SD quality? I thought D* was awful in this regard.

4. Will I get Hallmark Movies with the HD Platinum pkg, or do I have to pay xtra?

Thanks for the help!

1. 211x2 + 1 622 will need a DPP44 switch and 3 lines to the receivers for sat feeding.

2. 110/119 expect 90 - 110 signal, 129 expect 60 - 75, you would be better to have a dish aimed at 61.5 wich you will get easily 115 - 125 on the signal.

3. Depends on your tv really, if you have big screen hd tv's then your best bet to have good sd is to use rca's or coax off the 211's to get good sd quality, off the 622 for tv use the rca's or svideo for sd pq quality.

4. yes you will get hallmark.

nope you will get "Hallmark" but not "hallmark Movies" unless you get the "family pack"

Note your can use a dp34 but then will need 2 lines running from the DP34 to the vip622 and one each to ther others. Maximum of three satellites. DPP44 is a better solution but more expensive if you might be adding a fourth satellite (ex. 118.75 coming soon).

Answer to 3. (I have both) they are equally horribly overcompressed... some channels are better than others on each provider...
HD? E* is superiour by far (not talking SD)

Now that I have had E* for 2 days, I can attest that the HD IS better & most SD channels, especially the premiums, are sharper with better color than D* was. (As Van above mentioned, SD looks better using S-video input.) I'm VERY HAPPY so far! MUCH SUPERIOR TO D* in every way but the DVR; TiVo is more user friendly.

Which key on the remote do you use to get a "-" as in local digital 5-1? I can only access the locals thus far with the prog. guide because I can't find the dash key.

Thanks!!

BTW I have 211's & 622.

If your digital channel is 13.1 or 13-01 punch in 0131 or 013, both will work

Also for a more immediate response, you can enter in all five digits.

Ie) 01301 for 13.1 05403 for 54.3 00401 for 4.1 etc...

6000 to VIP 622 or 211 upgrade

VIP 622 screen cutoffs
