Does anyone know what JIP is after a program in the program guide? I've never seen this before.
To JIP is to join in progress. It is a broadcast TV acronym.
Of course that doesn't help the folks who want to watch the show immediately following the sporting event.which is something the networks don't do enough of anymore. CBS should JIP almost every Sunday evening so that programs would record when scheduled.
Just more or dish part time RSN HD joke.Does anyone know what JIP is after a program in the program guide? I've never seen this before.

Seriously, Dish alocates only a limited about of bandwidth for HD RSNs. This is good in the sense that it allows them to put up more non sports national HD. It is bad in the sense that those on the west coast in particular often get JIPed HD RSN games or games not shown at all in HD. The limited HD RSN bandwidth Dish puts out also limits the number of HD games they can show in their sports packages (CI and LP in particular). This is because the bandwidth is being used to broadcast games on other RSNs. Once these games are complete, then they can utilize this bandwidth for games that started later.
I was somewhat joking, hence the smiley at the end.Never is a very hard modifier.

In all seriousness, I don't know about the past, but over the last couple of years I have never seen a JIP game on Direct. Why would they need to if they already have pretty much every RSN broadcasting in HD full-time on CONUS?
There have been some JIP games put out by the network itself to all providers during local broadcast conflicts. This of course is not a provider issue, it is local RSN issue.
