New guy needs help.

I'm A brand new member but I've been lurking around for a couple of months> I found this place looking for C-band Info., now look at me I'm a wreck ( but smiling big), My living room is full of all this stuff, a new 1.2M Geosat pro (thank you AV It got here in 3.5 days, to my front door!), anew SG2100with 50mm pipe, and an old (flea bay) beat up Fortec lifetime ultra (it took 3weeks to get here, I thought I was ripped of) so I bought one of those cheap:>) Neusat sp6000's I planted my pole today, dug the hole yesterday, 3' deep/12" in diamater.I've checked it 5 times and the bubbles are still perfect. 5 80lb. sacks of creat. the pipe is 10' long so theres 7' in the air. Its heavy walled high pressure gas line 2 15/16ths inches OD . I bought a Bsc621-c/kulnfb and got scared after a lot of reading(here) and then I saw the little plug for the Sadoun party favors and how well they worked the KUL1 LNFB ,and yesterday a Fortec star universal appeared. I'm going to start with the KUL1 (unless i'm over ruled by you smarter guys) OK Now the questions start, two for today, #1 Where am I? My Zip code is 26421 And Im wondering because of my pole height can I assemble and hopefully align the motor to the dish mounts, includeing the butterfly part and mount that to the pole and then attach the dish and lnbf mounts ect. after?? Oh yes any tips on alighning the motor to the dish mounts. WOHarold

Welcome aboard Harold, you're in Elkins, W.V., if you really want to know? Your longitude is 79.51w and your latitude is 38.56n. Your true south satellite is AMC5 @ 79.0w. Your magnetic declination is -10. You can find some transponders to use when you search on lyngsat here:
http://www.lyngsat.com/amc5.html
You could probably mount it that way, but it might be better/easier if you mount the motor to the pole, then mount the completed dish to the motor. Have Fun and Good Luck!

Al

Motor elevation = 51º

Dish (On motor) Elevation = 24º

Its a good idea to find and store your true south satellite BEFORE you add the motor. One side of the motor will be marked ELEVATION and the other LATITUDE, make sure not to get them mixed up!

The below elevation angles are WITHOUT the motor.

I need to appologize. I used the wrong zip in my search last night. I used 26241 which is Elkins,W.V. I guess I was sleepy, and a bit cross eyed. Pete's is correct, 26421 is Pullman,W.V. Sorry about that.

Thanks for all the replies Guys and brings up a couple of new questions seeing as I don't live in elkins voomvoom, and I actually live 3mi east of Pullman in "the Whiteoak community" So now what would my new true south satellite be and my magnetic declination, what would that be and do I need that when I program my receivers? Ok I'll put the dish on the pole first , I was just trying to get out of some of the work, (I'm 61 but feel 85). Tomorrow if it quits raining, I will get out my grinder and level the top of my pole where the chop saw left it ragged and rust proof it black. Thanks" gabshere" I went and read sadoun's article and it said no more than 75' of cable from the motor to the receiver, is that 100% true?? I was hoping to hook up to the wires that go to my dish 500, which runs around the house to the power meter ground but that adds up to about 125' If that's so it means that I'm going to have to drill holes through at least 4or5 walls in my house and run the wires across the ceilings, which I'll do if I half to. I'm single. Thanks guys I do appreciate the help. Harold

You want to keep the cable run to the motor as short as possible but I often run well over 100' with no problems at all (depends on the motor of course)

The above angles are close enough, 3 miles do not make much difference as the satellites are so far away!

Hey I'm working in Philippi WV this week. Maybe I could of come and helped with your install but I am going home tomorrow.

Good Luck

Wholeshoe

Thanks Pete, I think I will at least try and use the "Dish 500s" wires there only 4 years old and are working just fine (I watch the NASA Chanel alot). At least until can get my Bud that works for Dish to bring his roll of RG-6 over, I wonder if he could help with aiming the dish and he's real tallll. Thanks for the thought Wholeshoe, Do you live around here? Could you be my friend that installs dish systems? That would be WEIRD! It will probably be Saturday before I can mount the dish, unless that 3m anti rust stuff dries quicker than I think,Nahh better let it get real dry. Could someone tell me which bird will be my true south. Just to feed my curiosity. Thanks, Harold

Nimiq 2/3 @ 82ºw is closest to your true south but thats a DBS satellite, I would use AMC 5 or AMC 9

It will probably be Saturday before I can mount the dish, unless that 3m anti rust stuff dries quicker than I think,Nahh better let it get real dry. Could someone tell me which bird will be my true south. Just to feed my curiosity. Thanks, Harold

Nope was just working there, I'm from Michigan.

In between the rain today I ground the top of my pole till its almost level and now my GEO-SATPRO 1.2m dish is on the pole, temporary wires are hooked up and waiting for another break in those black clouds. While I'm waiting Could someone please tell me what my dish elevation (with out the motor) should be??? I'm more than just a little bit cornfused. Thanks guys.

All your elevations to the satellites (WITHOUT THE MOTOR) are in post #4 under EL

:hatsoff: Thanks Pete. I did look at that list but I guess those single digit elevations are part of what had me confused. If I was any slower and just a tiny bit dumber I'd be a turtlerock. It never stopped raining long enough to take the TV and receiver out side. but the weather machine says no rain tomorrow. But they said that about today too. :< ) Harold

Well my installer(Dish) friend stopped by yesterday and made me a bunch of new wires. We spent a couple of hours trying to find AMC5 he kept getting hung up on all the stuff about seting up the motor, he finally broke out his meter (a nice blue leather covered thing and a nice compas with the degrees on it and a built in scope for checking the elivation, it also lets you see if the HOUSE or trees are in the way. Well if I half to I guess I'll just move my house. Ok back to the yard with my little TV. WOH.

I found KUEN-TV and watched the trotters run for a few minutes :<)) Does this mean that I found AMC5?? and does it mean that my compas runs backwards, and that I don't have to move my house?? Please somebody say it's all true.

OOPS, I found the sat in west of my south, about the same angle as I had been looking in the east (oh yes did I mention I have no idea how to read a compas?). The sat came in at a level of 83 and a Quality that bounced back and forth between 77 and 91. can I start trying to get my motor thing togather now? . Oh yes I was using my Fortecstar lifetime Ultra. Thanks many times all you Sat. Guys

Duhhh

Well you'd think that my hair was still blond, I had the wrong half of the" Dish" pair hooked up. Now I have KUEN-TV inside of my house. I plan to get this sat. into my Neusat before I start the motor install. Later

Hi Guys, A quick update on my Instalation/Alignment process. I still haven't zeroed it in yet ( my friend Jim came by yesterday, to watch/help and he said"Look Harold your pole is starting to grow hair" I said no Jim that's where I've been beating my head on it. I've been to at least 3 or 4 scrambled scrambled Sat's. (not on purpose), AMC 5 and one of the Mexican Sat's. I really thought I would direct X my way on to the belt today but no luck, If If I don't get this done soon, I'm going to take the motor off and put the dish back on the pole alone for the winter, I seem to have better luck aiming by hand. Here's my question Today I picked up another scrambled sat, hoping it was going to be IA7 these are some of the channels 1.channel#1, 2. channel #2, 3. #3, 4#4 5. SKLI, 6. DAAI,7.CQTV, 8.CSGD,9.CSFJ,10.CSLN and 10 others. The writing that came up in the epg looked Russian. If I knew wear this Sat. was it would tell me how far off I am.(I think) I appreciate the help and encouragement Guy's. WhiteOakHarold
