Hey guys,

As you may or may not know when I was with DBSTalk I created and programmed the DBSTalk Holiday Channel. Last year when I left DBSTalk I was in the Holiday spirit and uploaded most of my Holiday Music collection so that the DBSTalk holiday channel could live on for another year.

This year I am already working on our own SatelliteGuys Holiday chanel which we plan to begin broadcasting the day after Thanksgiving.

We are seeking feedback and ideas for the 2004 SatelliteGuys Holiday Channel and will also be seeking mp3 donations for the station.

Another thing we are looking to do this year is have staff and members host their own holiday shows on SatelliteGuys Radio.

So if you want to lend a hand please let me know. :)

Santa Clause is coming to town.

Im not sure... thats how we did it at DBSTalk as well. One thing going for us here is we do pay royalties on the music played. :)

He means donations of mp3 recordings of us playing holiday favorites on our accordions, xylophones, and recorders. Or through bodily functions if thusly talented. :D

Not a bad idea, let some play some of their own songs, perhaps make sure its approved by Scott and staff first. Have a contest and the one that has the best song with the vote of the staff/members wins prizes. Have different categories such as comedy, music, etc.

I really don't see why it would be illegal. Scott's not making any money by playing the songs on the satelliteguys radio.

TuxCoder Got run over by a Penguin.....

or another holiday favorite...

Open source, open source, giving code away..... Oh what fun it is to code, and cut down Bill Gates pay....

:D

Ah if only I could sing. But I would sing the second tune above, not the first. :)

Maybe we could have a thread of submitted holiday lyrics written by members, to be performed and submitted by other members with musical ability. :)

Just out of curiosity, how do you get away with this legally?
The rules for streaming music have been neatly laid out so it's easy for scrupulous bitcasters to satisfy their royalties obligations and stay on the good side of the law.

And all those file-sharing folks who got sued by the RIAA were making money? ;) The question of whether or not a copyright violator profited from the violation is a mitigating issue when awarding damages, but it doesn't affect the question of whether there was a violation. Strictly speaking, it may not be illegal (a cause to send you to jail), but improperly done it could be unlawful (a cause for awarding civil damages).
