Well ive had my 360 since launch and it always worked great, but today it decided to die on me. The box will turn on but it has 3 flashing red lights. I dont know what this means so I called xbox support and the CSR told me that since my box was out of warrenty it would be $139 to send it in and get it repaired. I asked him if there was anything he could do over the phone and he said no, and I told him i would call him back with my answer.

My question is, is it really worth spending that much on geting it repaired. Should i go and buy a core system, or should I just wait for the Elite to come out in a couple weeks? What do you guys think I should do.. Thanks for your help.

You will get a fully working 360, and i beleive back under a warranty for $139. Sure sounds cheaper than going the other way, and buying a new system...

sorrry jgags, I had a run of bad luck and went through 4-5 of them, all with different problems, the xbox360 is great, just has alot of hardware problems it seems!

Yea thats the problem. The only advantage of going and buying a core system is I can buy the extended warrenty form bestbuy. I would just hate to spend the 140 and get the xbox back and a month or two later to have it break again and have to pay the 140 all over again, But Idk.

Personally I think warrantied systems should get a 1-year warranty for themselves.

The 360's issues is one of the reasons I've steered clear of getting one....

If you pay to get it replaced you then get a 30 day warranty on that replacement. during that 30 days you can purchase a new extended warranty from MS for the 360 for 1 year for about $45. I am on my 6th one, (so far so good) and what I will be doing. MS told me about this when I called for repairs. Check it out...

If I remember correctly the repaired unit comes with a year warranty (current warranty terms). The Xbox CSR also told me that you can purchase an extended warranty from MS for another $30. might want to inquire about it. Other factors should be included in your decision. Are you going to get the 120G drive? Do you want HDMI connectivity? 140+180 = 320, About 2/3 of the price of the new elite system. Then trade your old one in to ebgames to offset the price for a 360 elite. I think there was a post saying how much ebgames would give you for your old system was about $210 or something.

just a few things to think about.

I just got mine back.. they told me regular warranty and the extended warranty is $29.99. Who knows. The CSR might have been full of crap. I just paid the $139 but that was before the elite was announced which I have on preorder at Circuit city. The VGA cable has some issues with it so now I prefer the HDMI connection.

Althought I do not agree with his decision, my buddys X box died also. He went to Costco, bought a new one, switched cases and returned the defective one!

All depends where you bought it, because for example I have 2 360s, I bought the last one as a gift for my kid on Jan 4, and two weeks later it died. When I went to Sears to make an exchange the system asked to scan the unit that was going to be changed and also scan the serial # of the new one. Ebgames also do the same thing.

Things had changed a lot in Costco customer satisfaction replacements, too many people had taken and serious advantages over their policies.

A warning to remember....

If you have bought content (XBLA titles, the infamous horse armor, etc.), you will have to be online to gain access to it if you change your console (to either a new elite, or another new unit). You can migrate your account to the new box, but it comes with a couple of gotchas.... During the recent server maintenace, people with new consoles couldn't play Oblivion (even the single player version) since their accounts were only available when they were online. Therefore an ISP outage would kill your ability to access certain content during those periods....

They are supposedly going to change this when the elite comes out, to make it easier to migrate, but right now, the old system is still in place. Swapping to the new 120 GB hard drive shouldn't be a hassle, since the CONSOLE is who your gamertag is tied to, not the drive.....
