Im just chiming in cause Im bored. I understand that a site is costly, and you need to at least break even. I would say that you even need to make some money because its a PITA. Also for trips like Scott takes(main reason I joined the pub).
But to be so greedy that you wont allow a link to another site, its BS. I could see if you linked to another site sponser, but not a link to another thread.
Funny thing is JL deleted slammins posts. Ive put DBS on the same list as D*, CANCELLED.
Ill throw all my support into visiting this site because Scott gets great E* info.

I wish we did earn a profit. When all is said and done I am still paying out of pocket for a large portion of SatelliteGuys.
Especially when you consider the fact they we go out to all of these shows to "Bring you guys there" while the other guys sit on their butts and if they are not there they pretend it didn't happen.
The cost to do these things is large, our costs for the SBE Pioneers Event was close to $6,000, our Team Summit meeting with Charlie cost me $1,400 for the room and catering. Of course none of these costs included airfare, hotel, taxis etc. ALL OF THIS CAME OUT OF MY OWN POCKET to bring the "SATELLITE COMMUNITY" (This includes the dipshits at the other site) to these events which they would never know about or never would be allowed to attend.
Its funny that they complaign we are a commercial site, yet they are SPONSORED by DirecTV (who appears to be there ONLY real sponsor).
Things that make you go hmm.

I think it is safe to say that Scott isn't make a huge amount of money off this place. He does it because this is what he enjoys, plain and simple. If he wanted to turn it in to a money making machine, I'm sure he could do it, but there would be some major changes around here that I'm pretty sure most of us would not like.
So, once again, it would benefit us if more people were supporting members, but since this message is in the pub, I am talking to the choir...

This is my hobby, its not a job for me. Sure it costs me money but its my only real hobby, I don't drink, smoke, gamble, go bowling or play darts. So I guess if I did those things I would spending about the same amount of money.
I just enjoy helping others learn more about this amazing and constantly changing technology.

Very true, which is why I joined and will recommend it when I can.

That I dont know. I know Marty the show promoter is about the make a very big announcement and I don't know what it is...
I am embarrassed to say I have gotten so much information and assistance from this site over the past year (since Jan. 2006) and just today realized I could donate/join. Thanks for all the work you have done here Scott! $19.99/year was a small amount compared to what I have gotten in return.

Yepp. Another site might be able to afford trips to gain intel and meetings and actually HELP their members if they werent the thread Gestapo.
