Is there any way to make an R22 receiver record in High Def, even if it's hooked up to an SD Television? I have the blue light on the front on 1080i. I have the resolutions under HDTV on 720p and 1080i (480p unchecked) and it still won't record in HD. I obviously can't watch the HD content on the SD tv, but I would like to watch the HD Content from the R22 on my HR23-700 via MRV. It would be like having 4 tuners on my HR23.

it records whatever is on the channels you record. If you have the latest software and are getting the HD channels, then when it records one of those channels and the program is HD, it is recording HD. DirecTV DVRs don't reprocess the content before saving to disk.

That's what I would have thought. However, this is not the case. All shows being recorded are recording in SD. I have all my HD locals and they are not recording in HD on the R22...

Then you are not watching/recording the HD channel. I promise you the R22 is not converting the HD signal to SD before recording it. Make sure you have it set to show HD channels. Try recording/watching something on an HD only channel like HDNet

Thank You JoB! You got me thinking. The resolution to the problem ended up being B-Band Converters. My R22 did not have B-Band converters on it. I put them on it, did a reset, and I'm in HD heaven.

Thanx for everyones help!
