Hi, my dad has a 522 and only has a cell phone. is htere a way to turn off the stupid "you will be charged 5 dollars..." message. He doesnt care about the fee, but is sick of the stupid warning??? can it be turned off? do they expect everyone to have a land line in 2004?? thanks Jon

He can call 1-800-333-DISH and they can remove the message (and they will begin charging him the extra $5 fee for the second tuner)

also, my dad said he had it set to record nhra today. he said he came out and it wasnt recording. He had just rebooted his 522 the day before. Is it common for the 522 to not record timers?? thanks Jon

Yes.

I've never had a timer fail, and I record the vast majority of the shows I watch.

I also don't have a land line. Dish can get your account set up properly so you don't see that message, but you may have to talk to more than one person.
