Recently installed a Fortec Star 36" Dish, STAB HH90 motor, Invacom Universal .3dB LNBF and Fortec Mercury II receiver. Based on my zip code, I calculated my Latitude = 37.7 and Longitude = 121.9. Sadoun's website says my Dish Elevation should be, based on the STAB HH90 motor, 39 and the Motor Elevation should be equal to my Latitude (somewhere between 37 and 38).

Using my True South Satellite at 123W, I entered my Latitude and Longitude into the receiver's set-up screen under the USALS mode and the dish moved. I adjusted/peaked the dish as best as I could (I think) and got, for the most part, signal quality between 42% and 65% on the various transponders (is this adequate signal quality?). I wouldn't get a signal at all if my mount/pole was not plumb, right? I then did a blind scan for all the FTA channels, stored them and then checked out the picture quality (which turned out to be fine).

Then, I told the dish/motor to move as far East as I could go (to get it to track) which happened to be what I thought was AMC6 at 72W. Tried peaking the signal quality as best as I could (because there's only one FTA channel there, I focused in on the 12144 V 2573 - Gospel Broadcasting Network transponder) - got around 50% or so signal quality. Did another blind scan, stored and then checked out what I got. (By the way, when I told the dish to move back to 123W, I no longer had a signal. Do I need to keep peaking a lot on both satellites before being able to track?) Anyway, the strange and confusing thing is that BOTH the Gospel Broadcasting Network channel AND Ohio News Network showed up on my t.v. while on the SAME satellite which, again, was positioned at 72W! The Ohio News Network channel is supposed to be just on SBS 6 (74W) at 11741 H 6616. Another channel that came in was a news feed for WGN-TV in Chicago.

What am I doing wrong? Your help would greatly be appreciated.

Hello and WELCOME to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum!

:welcome

You will still get a signal if the pole is not plumb and level (also taking into account the weight of the dish and motor) but the angles will all be off slightly!

Its possible the dish is between the satellites and getting both strong signals!!

Reminder, please do not mention or post details of channels or feeds NOT mentioned on Lyngsat. THANKS!

GBN is on AMC6 which I have stored and ONN is right next door on SBS6. Using the same dish and lnb as you I bring them both in very distinctly. It sounds to me like your pole may not be perfect as PSB suggested.

123W Galaxy 10R has an erratic transponder #1 , 11720 V . It seems to fluctuate on its own quite a bit and can be somewhat difficult to acquire. A better one for optimizing your signal might be 11805H SR 4580 . That one seems strong and stable. Unfortunately , the 11720V is generally the default one on the list, and consequently causes some unnecessary grief !
