With the introduction of Dish Network's Carbon UI, is there any hope and or pressure for them to update their UI.

What would you like to see?

My Two biggest beefs;

1) Not having more screen area and options to the guide, Namely more lines for Guide information and a 3 hour option.
2) No easy way to manage upcoming recordings via the STB and the DirecTV tablet/phone apps, and needing to dive through multiple menus to get to commonly used STB options.

Now with both of those requests, I generally see the UI and Menu setup on DirecTV's STBs' old and outdated in both design and Visual look.

I'm impressed by Dish's new Carbon UI, although I don't seem to like the new remote, but then again I haven't had Dish for my personal home for several years so I haven't used one. I still have Dish for my Business and I have the older 722 receivers. I'm not a big fan of the blue color scheme, but I do love the layout of the guide especially the way the 3 hour guide option displays on my screen.

With AT&T's Press Release and foray into new Streaming services, and other rumors about a possible hybrid box, is it possible AT&T wants to stamp their own brand on the dated DirecTV STB's UI to coincide these new services.

I'd like to see a new UI to see more programming information, but I'd like to see new hardware even more. :)

Improvements I would like to see:

More info on the screen. 3 hours would be nice...
Logos in the guide. I think the guides with logos instead of incoherent lines of text is SO MUCH easier to read. Directv already does this on their cell app - and I love it.
I wish the list button had easier access to all DVR functions. It would be nice if we could edit timers, check the to-do list (people always talk about this thing, but I have never looked at it), manage your timers, etc
Less menus - I don't like clicking through 500 things to do everything. The remote should have CC SAP and other basic functions. This isn't an ipod - it's a TV receiver. If we must keep this menu-happy system, when the info banner is active, the default (info) should be in the middle and CC to the right and Audio/Video be to the left, etc.

Other than that, it's better than the crappy Comcast (not X1) interface. I STILL see people with the blue guide every now and then (a bar near where I used to live included) and the black guide is SO much better than the old blue one. Any bar using the blue guide won't get my business twice. The Directv guide isn't bad, the things I listed are some things that would make it be even better.

Sounds like your asking for more options in the list .... that would require more clicks to get to different spots ..... but further down you ask for less menus ....

Haha yeah...

I basically want the list button to be a DVR button so it's all together. It should bring up the list now and the colored buttons can be for things within the DVR functionality.

Only problem with that idea is D* did away with them on the new remote other than the red one.

i have no issue with anything you guys want as long as

1.Test stays the same size it is
2. channel names stay, or there is an option ot have them and not logos
3. it stays as simple as it is (dont fluff it up and add unneeded clutter)

simple is better

1. Show 3 hours of guide info
2. Show channel logos instead of text
3. Get rid of ads in the guide
4. Let us customize the guide/menu colors

That's my thoughts, but I'd even be happy just with a 3 hour option using a smaller/tighter font.

The GUI text is not currently HD. Run the HD TVapps to see HD text.
