Is a Duo Node required when using a DPP44 switch?

Just curious about something since I use a 1000+ with a DPP44. It seems that the only wiring diagrams I see when using a DPP44 also use a Duo Node. I understand those diagrams show 2 hoppers instead of just one, but it makes me wonder: Is a Duo Node required when using the 44 even if you only have one hopper? Or would a solo node still work just fine?

solo node is fine. Put the power inserter on #1 and the solo node goes to 2 and 3.

if you ever got a duo node, then it would use the fourth port as well.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.
