IPTV -(internet protocol television) dyi boxes showing up now -

i just signed up on u-verse by att . 2nd day of having the service , i found out that the entire system (tv,phone and net . ) where all OVER THE INTERNET . my subject of focus is:
if everything is over the net ----

can any or all of the tv broadcast be channeled thru a fta . as in can i find and set my fta to a internet sat beam and use 1 of the many aftermarket IPTV boxes that are showing up now (android IPTV box) --

or can i have a internet service and add my own IPTV receiver ?? without subscribing to u-verse?

i know about roko - but again you buy what you watch on there....
