The ION Channel is moving from channel 181 to 280, according to DISH's EPG. I only rarely stop to watch this channel but is there any particular reason DISH is moving this? Just curious...

This is a guess. This is only a guess. If this were actual unadulterated fact, you would have been instructed where to see the official info.
Ion is a broadcast network just like ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, Univision and Telefutura which are all in the 240-298 channel block. These channels are not available to every Dish Network subscriber. It depends on local channels' availability and deals with the networks themselves.
This has been a guess.
The question is... how long before Telemundo is mirrored or moved to this channel range? That is also a US broadcast network.

Tony, I'll bet that's it. I had forgotten about Ion being a broadcast network since its predecessor PAX was a broadcast net. I believe a market near me (Greensboro, NC) has a PAX/Ion affiliate, so they probably don't get the channel I referenced. It doesn't matter to me, but what I don't understand is why DISH maps (or duplicates) other channels you mentioned like Univision, Telefutura to 2 or 3 different channel numbers and yet they are "moving" Ion. I believe other posters here have said that such "mapping" doesn't use any additional bandwidth but I don't quite understand the need for it.

there are people that dont get Ion national? I know here in Minneapolis we have a Ion affiliate (KPXM) that is not on Dish but we have always had the National feed
Rumor has it, that Noggin will finally be 24 hours and they need a spot for the The N channel/Network and since there is no channel number available in that area, they are moving the Ion channel to make room.

AFAIK everyone with AT100 gets ION now, but it COULD be that this arrangement is not going to continue. Again, I do not know for sure. Personally I do not watch that ION channel ever, I watch the cable version that has ZERO infomercials and lots of old movies and B&W Beverly Hillbillies.

dang...here in Mpls the OTA & cable version is 20 hours infomercials...would be nice to have more than just infomercials on there

Here in New Orleans, our ION affiliate is on dish and we also get the national.
ION now during prime time is showing some older popular shows such as
Boston Legal, NCIS, ER, Mash, Steve Harvey, etc
ION Television: Positively Entertaining
That would be great news. I hope it is true but I don't have my hopes up. What will probably happen is that they will either move HSN to 181 or put some another useless 24.7 Paid Programming channel which are the plaque of TV.
