Inverted dish

what does an inverted dish gain you
different angle
i know you've posted several pic before and i keep looking at them

so if i'm using 45 deg elev to look at my south bird T6 (93) @181 deg
what would this change to. Does it vary from dish (different types) to dish.

if so say its with a primestar 30 X 40

this might fit a need and create a weekend tinkering job

Inverted dish are mainly used in extream northern (Or southern) locations to pick up signals on the very low elevations of the satellites in the sky.

They are also often seen being used by the military, and unlike a prime focus dish the LNB does not block out any signal.

What I like about them is their low profile, this can be important in apartments/yards/public places and where wind load may be a problem. I always advise keeping the dish as low as possible, well you can't get much lower than an inverted dish.

I have never really paid much attention to the angle of elevation on the dish.

The angle coming down from the satellite stays the same (of course) and I use a positive satellite ID satellite meter, so I just move the dish up and down until it beeps "FOUND SATELLITE"

On my DirecPC dish I invert it by loosening the 4 skew bolts on the back of the dish and I can rotate the dish completely upside down and still have the same signal! So the elevation stays the same!

Main thing is its a lot of fun and looks kind of cool.

PSB, just out of curiousity what is the elevation on the arm of an 18" in the inverted position versus the actual elevation of the signal?

Depends where you are, what satellite.....

More or less the elevation scale is useless when you invert the dish, its best if you are locked (peaked) on the satellite before you invert the dish, then just watch for signal quality on the TV as you move the dish up and down to catch the signal.

I've used the inverted dish when I aimed for 148. Had a dish that only went to 20 elevation and I needed 15. Inverted it and it worked just great

Yes these are my test satellite dish! I don't really use them to test Rain Shield as they are inverted, works better on a regular off-set dish.

If there is a problem with line of site, would inverting the dish make a difference?

NO, the angle that the satellite signal comes down at NEVER changes

Make sure your F connectors are sealed up since some LNB's will have the cables facing up now.
