Hi,

First let me say I love this website! Very informative with helpful members.

I've got my 1 Hopper/1 Joey install scheduled for Sunday (Not sure if I can wait that long, I'm drooling over this thing), and I was wondering what the best option for me would be in terms of getting both the Hopper and Joey connected to the Internet? My wireless router is in a separate room from where the receivers will be going. My house unfortunately doesn't have Ethernet outlets wired so that isn't an option, and it would require a weird cat5 run since my crawl space doesn't extend under the room where the router is located. The router can't be moved to another room so that rules out use of a HIC, correct?

With this said what are my remaining options to be able to take full advantage of all the available Internet features on both the Hopper and Joey, will the installer have these things, and is it something I will need to request or will it automatically be handled?

Thanks!

Do you have an availible coax line in the room where your router is? If so, the installer will use an HIC. If not, he will connect a WiFi adapter to the Hopper. Either of those should be provided for free with the install.

do you have an existing coax line near the router?

The hic can use any sort of client line access to the node. doesn't necessarily have to be near a hopper or joey.

Edit: isaacmorse beat me to it... heh

Get a couple of HomePlug adapters. Put one at the router, the other use at the HIC. The HIC can be placed near the Joey. Connect the coax from the wall to the Home Video Network port, then connect the Joey to the Pass-Thru port.

No coax in the room with the router. And I assume it would be out of the question for the installer to run one since a faster alternative would be WiFi? Only reason I'm concerned with the WiFi is because of what I've read on here about not being able to do certain things with the Joey using this setup, correct? Or will WiFi hooked into both do the trick? Sorry for all the simple questions but since this particular setup is all unfamiliar to me I want to make sure I get it right the first time around.

And yes, the HIC will be free. The tech that came out to install the 2nd hopper a week after my initial hopper install hasn't installed one, was reluctant, and said he thought would be a charge.

He called his boss, boss said if customer wants, install it, and there is no charge.
