I was hoping I would never have to type this in any forum but I guess there's a 1st time for everything. I'm a NOOB at all this but trying to read up and educate myself before bugging seasoned veterans. Ok, here's my situation. I have cable and it works well for me, price wise, programming wise, etc. My wife is from Brazil and is interested in a channel that Dish network offers called "TVGlobo" which is available for 19.99 as an "a la cart" option. No biggie. Well I have a brand new Dish 500 dish with dual LNB and built it switch (AK72-BTE) and a Dish 311 receiver. My wife wants the channel on only one TV in the house and other than getting this one channel on this one TV I will have no other use for any other programming. I spoke with a tech at dish and he said that the channel I was looking for was broadcast from Sat 118.5 along with all the other international programming. So once I get the dish mounted, aimed, etc, sat 118.5 will be available? Do I need specific aiming coordinates to shoot sat 118.5, will my LNB (marked with 110 - 119) be compatible with sat 118.5. There are 3 coaxial ports on my LNB. There’s 1 and 2 on the left and to the far right is a coaxial port marked “LNB in” (for another satellite). Am I correct in assuming that I will only use one of the 2 outputs from the LNB? This should be pretty cut and dry correct? I'm am about to mount, install and run everything I just want to make sure I have all ends covered. Let me know if I’m missing anything. Thanks in advance!

First off, TV Globo is broadcast from three satellite locations, 118.7, 61.5 and 148. Which sat you aim the dish at really depends on what part of the country you live in. I'm fairly certain that you will want to aim your dish at 61.5 or 148 with the LNBF that you have. If you live in the Eastern portion of the US shoot for 61.5 and if you are a West coaster, aim for 148. I think you may be able to find the proper angles for that dish on dishnetwork.com. Hope this helps.

With your 311 hooked up to a TV, hit the menu button, then 6 for 'system setup', 1 for 'installation', then 1 for 'point dish/signal'. Once on the point dish and signal strength screen, use the remote to highlight 'peak angles' then hit the 'select' button. Highlight the 'zip code' box and enter your zip code, set the 'satellite' box for 61.5 (your LNBF really isn't made for 118.7) and finally set the 'dish' box for either 500 or 300. I don't think it matters which one you choose, but check just to make sure. The dish 500 is really made to pick up 2 satellite locations, but you can use it for 1. There just won't be any setting for SKEW. let me know if you have any other questions.

GOOD TO GO! I got it all up and running. My 311 receiver didn't have information for the 61.5 bird so i found a program on the web that lets you put it your zip and which sat you're trying to shoot and it gives you azmuth, elevation, and sku (irrelevant in my case). I shot the azmuth, set the elevation, then used my box and signal strength meter to fine tune to a signal strength of 105-107, The picture quality is excellent and yesterday we had heavy clouds, rain, and bag storms but my sat worked like a charm. so here's a run down. New dish - $40 from ebay (20+20 shipping), $135 for new dish 311 receiver (bought from local dealer 125+tax) 50 ft rg6 cable $15. $19.99 per month for TVGlobo +$6 access fee, $25 per month + under $200 for equipment and installation. WORKS GREAT!
Your only problem is DISH is in the process of moving all International programming off the wing satellites 61.5 & 148 onto the 118.7 satellite. 118.7 requires a DISH 500 Plus satellite dish so you may have 6 mo. before you need to redo everything. Hopefully as an existing customer DISH will give you a free upgrade to the new equipment.
I already have a dish 500 plus sat dish. (with dial LNB and Built in switch) I beleive it will be only a matter of shooting a new azmuth and repositioning my sat. I have a clear view of the sky from my location, in all directions so i should be good.
Are you sure you have dish 500plus and not a dish 500 the plus is quite a bit larger and looks at three satellites not just 2.
