According to the thread - DPH Dish 500? - DISH will be taking satellite 118 out and replacing all International Channels with streaming only. I talked to DISH on Facebook Messenger earlier yesterday and this was what I was told that I am correct and
I will see the website on the screen with a message "This channel has moved. A Dish Hopper receiver connected to the internet is required to ensure uninterrupted viewing. Please visit the following website for more details and it will show a QR code." Here is their reasoning: "We are transitioning to International Services from satellite to streaming to offer more International channels in HD with no bandwidth limitations and extra channels depending on the language group."

My quick thinking just thought of all the people who have Hopper Receivers since the whole point of the Hopper is one is supposed to be able to go back up to 60 minutes in the programming which streaming does provide but then the issue is there will no longer be the feature to record the shows as basically you have to be watching the channel no more than 60 minutes later or else you can't see it which basically means one can no longer record the programming to watch until either they are no longer a subscriber on the same account and/or when the hard drives or DISH no longer is around. Then people are also paying DISH for the International channels as it comes on it's own dedicated pipe which is via satellite but now it will require either customers getting internet connections or basically using bandwidth from the customers connection which they and not DISH is paying for and remember that the Internet is many networks all connected together so there can be bottlenecks among other things between DISH and the customer that can effect the programming. For example, I can see that DISHcapes works fine without freezing but with Jade World which is Hong Kong Cantonese programming which since a few months ago appears to have for each channel, the satellite version and the streaming version. The streaming version has a major issue as the picture will freeze and there is no way to resume the video without changing the channel and then back to the channel. So I think before they do the changes, they should atleast get the recording part working on streaming channels first or otherwise those who are on the Hopper receivers on international channels will basically be using the Hopper more to delay up to 60 minutes of watching programming and the DVR and storage couldn't even be used. Besides, if one needs to stream the channel, one might as well just subscribe to the same channels elsewhere as for Jade World for example, their app is free with ads and you can watch the programming on demand for most of their shows since 1967 until current without having to follow a schedule or what's currently on their schedule as you can watch an infinite amount of programming.

Correct - I don't know the exact date, but according the the SEC filings, Dish's lease for Anik F3 at 118.7 expires in April 2025. So everything would be off that satellite earlier than that.

Per tjboston5676 in the other thread:
"They should already be gone from satellite. This is on our internal dish pages:

  • REMINDER: International channels will be switching to streaming come October 17th and will no longer be selling to customers via satellite. "
They should really give advance notice to the customers. DISH's website as mentioned in the thread already says International Channels available by internet only but it does not mention that you can't record these channels.
