I have a question regarding the pricing of the international channel. I was wondering why dish charges so much for these channels even though the rights to broadcast them are cheap. I am not here to flame dish or anything just wondering if somebody might have some insight to it.

i'd sub to more than the 3 i do now if they weren't so darn expensive. Some times i think about goin to aep and dropping the INTL channels (and payuing about the same i do now with 250 + intl). darn pay packages 
We have been paying $25 a month for one(1) International channel for just over nine years so I fully understand what your saying. My only surprise is that they haven't attempted to raise their price in all these years.
Hear hear! Dish is almost certainly operating on the wrong side of the return curve, meaning they could reduce the price and their revenue would increase because that many more people would subscribe.
I actually think that is entirely wrong.
I think that the prices are high, because there are very few people who are interested in any one channel.
Remember that the fixed costs for transmitting a satellite channel are in the millions of dollars.
How many Dish subscribers currently watching Fox Reality Channel are going to want to tune into:
- Inter+ (Ukraine)
- Kino Polska (Poland)
- Sun TV (Tamil)
I think that a majority of the people interested in subscribing are already doing so.
Why do people want Intl channels when they can get it cheaper through another sat provider?
It is numbers and economies of scale. The Dish Latino packs offer pretty good price, but that is because there are MILLIONS of spanish language (entire regions and cities where some speak only Spanish) speakers in this country: there is a great demand for Spanish language programming, therefore, lower prices and greater value. However, the lower numbers for the other foreign language speakers does not even come close to the numbers of Spanish speakers. A good comparison is the utilities companies: the more customers, the lower the rates for all; the fewer customers, the higher the rates for all. And the rights are not so cheap to get when there are fewer viewers on Dish.
It is the leverage of critical mass (very high numbers of subscribers) that brings down the cost of rights Dish is to pay to transmit the programming to you on Dish Network. If you want to see the price drop, get more people to subscribe to that international channel.

What is in your pipe ? How you can count Hispanic population against others ? Difference is 100 times ! Man ! You sounds as Dish PR or marketing Dept.

Not so for the Arabic language channels.
The DishNetwork lineup is far superior to DirectTVs at a better price.
Would you care to elaborate on which providers have TV Japan priced at less then $25 a month.

I cannot speak for others, but I chose Dish Net work several years ago thinking I will subscibe to some South Asian channels. I was mainly interested in the movies and music. Dish actually priced themselves out of getting any of my money because I found I can buy or rent the movies on DVD much much cheaper than paying Dish. Also, most of the DVDs are in DD 5.1 sorround sound while Dish just gives crappy mono sound not to mention much better video on DVD.

Because most people don't know yet that they can have much more Int channels via Internet with decent PQ for much less.
For ex. you can get 16 main Russian channels for $15/ month comparing with 4 modified for US Russian channels for $30 at Dish or 5 other modified for US Russian channels at D* for $45.

IPTV would be great if the picture could be displayed on TV than just on the PC.
I started only with having international channel and then i subscribed to english channels from dish network as well. The way i see it Dish got more business out of me just because they are the only ones offering the channels i want.

The cable company offer 6-12 months of a free international or pay channel during its promotional offer for new cable customers.
How come Fujisankei, TBS, NTV and other japanese stations won't launch a satalite/cable channel overseas? Those channels really worth $25 a month. Fujisankei has a station in New York, but they won't launch their own 24 hour station.
The cable provider in my neighborhood does not carry TV Japan. Every time they attempt to offer me service I bring this up and that's the end of the conversation. AT&T on the other hand does offer TV Japan through their newly activated U-verse service, for $25 a month I might add. Unfortunately AT&T can only provide one HD feed at this time along with multiple feeds of SD of course. Until AT&T can provide multiple feeds of HD they are not competitive in my humble opinion.
