The idea of SA going 100% IPTV goes against one of their original mission objectives: In the 1990's, they were high on the idea of broadcasting satellite television into other countries that is inside the footprint of their signal (Puerto Rico, Mexico, Central America, etc.). Only the very well-to-do households in these countries have high speed Internet! And quite frankly, we live two miles from Interstate 5 between Olympia, WA and Portland, OR and there is no broadband provider that has a wire coming to our house - our high speed Internet comes from Satellite. There are tens of thousands of households between I-5 and the coast that are in the same position. These people need to realize that it is not a given that high-speed Internet is available to the entirety of the populaton that they are trying to reach.
I am not impressed with their IPTV approach. A few years ago, I was thinking that I would like to see the TBN people and/or the CBN people (Christian ministries with some serious bank accounts) get together with the SA people and collaborate to finance some new satellite technology for SA. Now Glorystar comes from out of nowhere and where SA used to fill a niche all to themselves - quite frankly - the Glorystar business model is probably going to wipe SA off of the map. I was considering replacing our DirecTV boxes with Dish Network so that all of our boxes can get SA but between Glorystar arriving and SA talking about going IPTV - I am definitely putting that decision on hold.
