A little background first.

I'm a long time internet customer. Comcast is the only game in town. For years I paid $57.95 mo and was getting my TV through Dish.

I got a call about six months or so ago from Comcast asking if I was interested in getting their Basic Cable service. It would drop my internet down to $42.95 and BC would add an additional $5.99. This was a savings to me, so I went for it. I'm still watching TV through dish and have never watched Comcast at all.

Fast forward to this letter I received. It appears they are increasing my rate for TV, but just try to find Basic Cable or Limited Basic cable video service at their website. I haven't found them.

They give me two options. Respond in agreement that this is the service I am receiving, or call with questions, etc. At this point I'm choosing a third option which is to not respond at all.

So, what is Limited Basic Cable video service and how does it differ from Basic Cable Limited Basic? My most recent bill shows the latter wording priced at $5.99.

I know, I know, I can call them and probably will eventually. I just thought someone may be interested in sharing their thoughts on this.

Letter is attached.

This is hard to read.
It sounds like your deal of $42.95 and $5.99 is increasing to $42.95 and $15.99 so you are back to your original price!!
Nothing should change with the cable service.

I have the same deal in my area, Cable internet only $58 or Cable internet $43 with basic cable for $16 ($59 total).

Yes, I guess it's just a price increase taking it back to what I was paying before. I just wish I could find these rates at their website. I find it curious that they change the name of the service. Almost makes it sound like I'm getting something more. I'm pretty certain I'm not.

If by hard to read you mean the attachment, in IE, if I click on it once it blows it up and it is very legible. I suck at posting text like that online. I don't know the right format to use. File extension and DPI and all that.

I can read it perfectly fine, just zoom in.

Go to Comcast.com and then click on Programming and the Channel Lineup. Enter your address and it will give you the channels you'll get in the Limited Basic package.

I only have HSI from Comcast and was getting 4 mbps and 368 kbps for the same price as you. For $2.00 you can get the 6 mbps and 1 mbps tier. It's not listed anywhere in their website but I called just to inquiry about any other Internet packages.

Limited Basic (lifeline) is what I bundle with my broadband. It offers the lowest 30 channels or so for about $10-13/month + taxes and fees. Basic is no longer offered (though it is grandfathered). Your choice is whatever you currently have, Limited Basic or some sort of digital package.

Oh yeah, I've seen the channel lineup, what I'd like to see is these packages listed with pricing. I mean I do understand why they can't be found.

What I'm trying to say I guess, is the package I have still available, or has it been replaced with the $14.99 package. If it has, I'll bite the bullet, pay the extra, stay with it and be back paying what I was.

I'd be more trusting if it wasn't a form letter. I didn't have to sign anything for the $5.99 package, why do they want a signature now? To me this reads like something designed to take advantage of people.

What I have is Basic Cable Limited Basic. The question is, did the price increase? Sounds like you're paying less than they want to charge me now.

I suspect they gave you a six month discounted rate for basic cable. You rate just went back to normal. Not sure why they gave it to you in the first place. I have a similar setup, and either the HSI with no cable, or with basic cable costs me $60 including taxes.

OK, I'd say you cleared it up for me. What you're saying makes sense.

There was no mention of it being an introductory offer, but that doesn't surprise me in the least.

Thanks for your help.
