Interesting document. The logical progression and attention to detail are pretty impressive. I envy those who are sufficiently technically knowledgeable to understand both the content and the implications.

I had always wondered why universal lnbs were not more popular in NA. This hints at why. Will we now be seeing increased demand for universal lnbs? Will satellite operators need to send up new satellites to use channels in the low band of Ku?

I'm not sure I agree that smaller antennas are harder to point. Perhaps they are talking about transmission antennas where I have nothing to say due to zero experience. In my experience my C-Band dishes don't find the satellites any more easily and are more easily knocked off alignment in a blow.

Maybe some satellite internet will come down into lower bands. From those I have spoken to Ka satellite internet is quite fast due to the high rates of transfer achievable but the short wavelength signal is continually being knocked out by moisture.
 
Since the Fixed Services (FS) are land based, I wonder if I should point my dish at the horizon and turn it 360 degrees and see if there are any local services in that band?

It seems like the land based services want to be able to use smaller dishes and the satellite services are against it. I don't think there will be any new satellite services using this band.
 
Ok so this is where the dish pointing issue comes in - they are not so much concerned about hitting the source of the signal as tuning out the terrestrial interference and other land based signals.

Interesting that they mention the improvements in technology. Nice to be reminded that the technology is changing rapidly all the time.
 
This sounds like the old C-band problems when a local microwave installation interfered with your television viewing on certain satellites.

Is this the past coming back to haunt the Ku-band?
