Installing a 10 foot cband dish into side of a building

Between Joseph and this guy. I feel like we are being punked in some sort of twisted way. Most installs are done in backyards, you will be fine. Just make sure you use plenty of concrete.

you have to keep in mind I am not very good with home hardware and this is going to be my first install. I don’t know much about installing satellites and I’m not familiar with wind loads etc. As I’ve been told by a few people installing the dish onto a pole into the side of the building is not the best idea. I had a contractor give me a quote and he said the pole would be fine for standing the load however I felt like he just wanted to install the pole and wasn’t too worried about the wind load and another guy told me that the pole drilled into the side isn’t a good idea so I thought why not just keep it simple and safe and do a backyard install without any poles and plus the dish would be easier to reach when needed to fix rather than needing a ladder.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but if you are planning to sink a pole in concrete, make sure you weld some metal pieces to it so it can't break free and spin in the concrete during high winds.

Any progress on your backyard install? The winter snow has melted...

Hello cyberham,

The dish is going to be put in my uncles backyard because I can’t see the Clark belt from my backyard. We already started digging and bought a schedule 80 pole. Have to concrete it in and put up the dish. I got a 8 foot mesh dish brand new never used off a former installer, a local member will help me aim it. I also bought some ribbon cable which has coaxial cable and the wiring for the actulator and polarizer etc. We plan on running the wire along the fence. I think it will go well. But with the pandemic happening im self isolating so we’ve left everything on the back burner for now. But I plan on finishing the pole soon and assembling the dish and getting assistance on aiming it and after I’ve drilled some poles and placed the wiring setup the receivers and I can’t wait to see that analog cspan channel and the wild feeds in HD.

Hello everybody.
Update: so we’ve finished the pole part and now ready to install the dish. I have two dishes an 8 foot and a 10 foot. Keep in mind the dish is being put into my uncles backyard because it’s the only house that I have permission to use and it’s the only house that I know of that has a backyard pointing south. Anyways his wife wants the smaller dish because she’s saying it looks ugly. Now we’re thinking to put up the 8 foot but what is the downside of having an 8 foot ? I know bigger the better but I mean 8 foot is not the smallest. What channels or frequencies would I not be able to receive on an 8 foot that I could get with a 10 foot dish ? Thanks.

Alot. 16apsk and sometimes 32apsk feeds. You will want the 10 ft dish.
If you are just doing analog then it doesn't matter.

Sam: You might enjoy watching a new video just placed online yesterday that specifically addresses tuning in C-Span and analog C-band transponders. This fellow uses an 8-foot C-band dish.

Cyberham: believe it or not, Robbie posted it literally a day after I asked about the analog signals so I saw the video as soon as it was posted. Very interesting although his signal wasn’t coming in so clear. Now as for my install I’m just waiting for my friend who will help me install the dish as I have all the parts for my dish now. Might have to extend my pole as the shed is kinda in the way but progress is coming along. I also saw something on galaxy 12 or 13 about ntsc feeds but doubt they’re still up, can’t really find out until I get my dish up. But I also saw some exciting videos on live wild feeds of various places they’re digital but it seems fun to watch.
