Installer here now - 1000.2 vs 1000.4

I've got an installer here at the house now. We currently have a Dish 500 pointed at 110/19 and a large single pointed at 61.5. Reception is fantastic with the large dish on 61.5. Of course we do not get much HD anymore, that is why the installer is here. He is installing a 1000.2 on the facia of our house. I'm thinking he went that route as the 1000.4 is bigger and would require a more complicated mount. He claims 1000.2 will be a better signal than 1000.4. I don't believe him. I tried to talk him into pointing the Dish 500 towards 72.7 and leaving the third LNB dead. He said he would do it but I have no idea how it would effect the receiver.

Are we going to lose signal strength going with a 1000.2 on 129? Thoughts?

I have had both Arcs and I noticed no difference. I do get a weaker signal strength with the eastern arc setup here in Colorado (NLOS WA). If he went with 1k.2 he is probably able to get a better signal with it. With out being there it is hard to say but there isn't really that big of difference installation wise.

Thanks for the quick feedback. The installer is almost done. We will see what signal strength looks like in a few minutes. Excited about getting more channels.

129 is a new strong satellite, you will be fine.

In my area I have used both and believe me if I thought the 1K.2 dish was better I would still be using it.The facts are the 1K.4 dish is larger and the larger the reflector the stronger the signal.My signals from 110/119/129 are 10 points higher with the 1K.4 dish.You will hopefully be fine with the 1K.2 in good weather,where you would notice a difference is when it rains.You will get rainfade faster with the 1K.2.Now if you are in a extremely rainfall area you might consider going even larger(if your rainfade is really bad) and either go with 3 30" dishes or look into maybe changing out the 1K.2 reflector with a larger one even bigger than the 1K.4 like the 500+ or 1000+.Good Luck!.

On that thought of adding another dish for 129, I just bought a Dish VIP 211K receiver. I have a Dish 500 set at 110 and 119 with a sw21 switch to change between lnb's. I also have a single lnb dish to install to point to 129 for HD service. What do I need to add for the receiver to see this additional dish set to 129? If this is the wrong place to ask this, please forgive. Thanks for the help.

Get a Dish Pro PLus LNB for 110, and 119. Run the line from the 129 lnb into the DPP Twin and run a check switch, you wil see all three sats.

I just thought of something else. I have access to a DirecTv 3 LNB (101, 110, 119). Is it possible that this dish would work for 110, 119, 129. I know there is a 1 degree difference more for the distance between 119 to 129 than it was originally designed for (110, 119) in the DirecTv application. May be too much signal loss for 129.

Well it could work, but it would function as a legacy LNB (ie. need a cable for each orbital slot, external switch, tons of cabling) and as you said, lower signal on 129.

He's right. The signals on the 110/119/129 are indeed several clicks higher than the sats on the eastern arc....61.5 72.7 77....
I installed these things for as long as they have been in existence.

BTW, why is it you not in the business can say " I don't believe the tech"...?....What the hell is THAT?
What I could not stand is here we are professionals attempting to HELP you the customer and you have the nerve to question us as though we know squat.

Check your signal requirement matrix. You'll find the minimums on the 1000.2 to are higher. Tomorrow, ask techs that call in which array gets higher signal readings.
