I'm 99.67% sure I want to switch from cable to DTV (DVR, etc), however, my wife has a few reservations (she always does that, ruins my fun!)

Her concerns (and I guess I should be concerned too) are:

What if the dish mounting on the roof causes a leak in the roof? Who is responsible for fixing that?

If the olde Northwind blows and moves the dish out of whack, who fixes that?

Is this stuff what the Protection Plan is for?

OK, now... I see in this forum people using abbreviations- D*, MRV, etc. Where can a newbie find the explanation for these?

Thanks much! Let's hope I can ease our fears of switching from the comfortable to the new and exciting!

First question. I'm not sure. I would think if the installation caused it they(DTV) would be responsible.

Your 2nd question the answer is, get the protection plan. The realignment would be free as well as the charge for the service call. Otherwise you will get charged after your initial 30 days.

D* stand for DirecTv. I don't really know why this has been used on these boards? Everyone knows who they are.
I don't know myself what MRV is? I'm new to DTV and never saw this on the DISH forums.

MRV = Multi Room Viewing
D* = Directv
E* = Echostar, they own or were the owners of Dish Network

Incase you come across this:

SWM or SWiM = Single Wire MultiSwitch, a newer device that D* uses to get both tuners on your DVR to work with ONE line.
