Hi everyone(1 post)

I have dvr508(Everything program) and i want to upgrade to a 625 from Dish

I called Dish twice and they told me two different answers to my questions, can you guys that have a 625 help?

With the dish it up program all i pay is $49 for upgrade to a 625?

Do i pay a rent or lease on the 625 or is it included in the 18 month program?

If i have just the 625 do i get charged for the second TV(If the phone is plugged in)like a second receiver?

Is the 625 the way to go or should i look at something else?(don't have HD TV)

Thanks for your Help

Considering the 625 promo was just reduced this month from $100.00 to $49.00, YES it's a good deal!!!! You pay just ONE reciever fee and the DVR fee.
It's a pretty good unit. Have had mine since Sept. with no problems except for the occasional 1 second audio drop-out.

This is a serious flaw if you are into Home Theatre. If you are buying see if you can't find a 942 somewhere, IMHO they are far superior to 625'.

He does not want HD!!!! Serious flaw????
You got some splainin' to do.

The 625 does not receive HD. And if you're watching a concert or 5.1 movie through a good home theatre system (A/V receiver) IMO audio drop is a serious problem. At least it was on the two 625's I went through.

If you're watching something at home, even in a theater, I don't think a 1-second drop out is such a major crisis. I have a 5.1 system that I think is a pretty good system, and the dropouts have never really bothered me that much.

If I was at a movie theater I would expect differently, but I'm at home, it's no big deal.

My experience with both 625's was audio drop every 6 or 8 minutes when re-playing 5.1 through the toslink. Now to me that is unacceptable.

If the 625 acts like the 522 you'll get audio drops even if you're not using 5.1 sound. It sucks but apparently there's nothing Dish can/will do about it.

Since The Kid doesn't have an HD TV it doesn't make sense to upgrade to an HD receiver unless he plans on getting an HD monitor. If so, I would recommend the new ViP622 receiver.

I was of the understanding that they would not activate 942's for HD after 2/1. If that is true there should soon be some avaliable at reasonable prices and they would make a good dual tuner SD DVR.

Good luck with that kind of thinking. Have you tried looking at flea-bay lately? Nobody has come down on the prices on the 942's. Seems $500 is the average. Hate to say it, but I would still go with the 522/625. Maybe after April 1st things will change.

622 and 522 questions??
