Interview with Charlie this morning, In the loop on Bloomberg by Betty Liu, what a time this is for Dish or Charlie and his spectrum and especially the consumer.
Play the card and Disrupt the industry. 20 bucks a month for unlimited calls and text, "cross carrier" coverage most anywhere, I can live with that Charlie, meat left in the data charges, 3 dollars a gig is acceptable. play the card.

Analysts predict that WiFi calling poses a substantial threat to the likes of T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, and could further an ongoing race to the bottom for wireless prices.

20 bucks a month for unlimited "cross carrier" service, AT&T and Verizon will be along shortly.

Charlie was the typical poker face, maybe go with T-mobile maybe play the spectrum holdings alone, maybe......

To see an industry that most of the general population has qualms with, getting disrupted by mavericks, I like it.

Spacex/Musk to launch Charlies next sat., Oh Yeah. A Maverick.

Break from the heard and do a little bucking.

That's something to get excited about

Disrupters are good for consumers and business," said Preston Padden, the former chairman and CEO of American Sky Broadcasting, which merged with Dish in 1998. "I have enormous respect for Dish Network, but if I was a broadcaster I wouldn't give retransmission to a distributor promoting automatic ad-skipping technology."

Mr. Ergen, worth $9 billion as of September, according to Forbes, is challenging sports rights in a similar way, with rumors he is considering the possibility of rolling out an a la carte streaming internet service that doesn't include sports. Discussions with Viacom for an à la carte internet product have been ongoing for over a year, according to the affiliate-sales executive, who's familiar with the conversations.

My god, I wish I had the time you have. To get a hard on over a POSSIBLE Dish/T-Mobile merger AND have time to look up quotes from 17-18 years ago, and post a bunch of links no body gives a crap about.

Lots more in the interviews, you really need to check it out.

Delivered via the internet, "All", disruption from all angles,

Looking out five years, Ergen predicted all TV programs will be stored “in the cloud” for on-demand viewing and delivered via the Internet, given the lower cost and ubiquity of connected devices.

there’ll be some carcasses,” Ergen said. “They’ll be on the side of the road.

Tell em how it is Charlie.

Dish also would be able to build Sling into “a highly efficacious ad platform” where marketers could target viewers by location and other metrics,

” Even if Dish didn’t land the lowest prices from programmers, with its relatively inexpensive wireless transmissions it still “could under-price anyone in the market while benefiting from ubiquity and segmentation.”

That’s contributed to an even more interesting — or, depending on your perspective, worrisome — thought: a Dish-T-Mobile combo might merely represent step one in a mega-merger involving either a cable operator or an Internet company such as Google or Microsoft.

Google, Comcast, or even Microsoft might make for a more amenable third party to help bring Dish and T-Mobile together

"We can stream a personalized ad to everybody," Mr. Ergen said. The availability of data will allow Dish to send individual viewers more targeted messages that are relevant, which Mr. Ergen said means "we can start moving into some of the categories that the Facebooks and the Googles of the world are taking advantage of today." Yes!!

Greater ad revenue could help Englewood, Colorado-based Dish increase the channel offerings without raising Sling’s price!!!!!

Speaking separately at the Northside Brooklyn tech conference Thursday, Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch said he’d be interested in adding more channels without raising the price!!!!!

What are they going to do with all those installed dishes?? Know some guys that might could use them in their community driven wifi mesh network.

That is a failed notion solely because sports will never do that, and there will always be those that like the old way better. They would be cutting the heads off their golden geese, one could say. Besides, 5 years would likely not make to much sense with DTV sending up a new bird, and Ergen getting ready to send another up. I have a feeling you are misunderstanding what Charlie is saying.

I think Lue has a similar obsession with ip video that our buddy bluegras has with HD additions to Dish. :) I can assure you DBS will be around, they aren't spending $100,000,000 plus on new birds in the BSS and Ka band to send up and do nothing.

A la cart/ tiered steaming changes everything
Five million people – known as cord-cutters – ended their cable and broadband subscriptions from 2010-2013 according to Business Insider. As more folks shift away from TV and towards streaming services, the sports advertising TV bubble is going to burst
