I have a SV-4000 hook to a 1M (motorized) dish. It has worked well so far but for a while I have sheen more and more channels go dark on 97W (no signal or signal with no info on transponder). Would it help to get a new receiver with new firmware (one with HD)? I just watch FTA and have been out of the loop so long I don,t know what is working now. What is a good main stream receiver? (SV-4000 has latest firmware)

Most likely that old View Sat isn't capable of receiving the S/S2 signals that a lot of feeds are going to now.

Geosat Pro Micro HD seems to be pretty popular and they can be had on fleabay for around $125 shipped.

Don't know if that receiver has blind scan, but quite a few transponders and channels have been changed on G19. If no blindscan check here>> Galaxy 19 (97W) Ku-band channel guide -- Jan. 5 update <<for updated TP info to enter and scan. Most is still DVB-S, yet, on G19.
But being on a motorized dish, a receiver upgrade isn't a bad idea as DVB-S2 is getting more common especially with itinerant or new services.

After looking at a few receivers (Geosat Pro Micro HD, Openbox S9, Jynxbox HD, nfusion HD, Dreamlink HD) I don't really need to record programs, I am looking for a newer more up to date receiver than my SV-4000 and one with HD. I just watch FTA to keep up with what is going on in the world. (I'm in USA) To get a Hd receiver would I be able to receive HD FTA?

Yes. There are DVB-S that state HD compatible. So beware. Get a DVB-S2 capable receiver. Of your list I'd go with the microHD, for the support, right on this forum. The other I'm looking at, for when the time comes, is Amiko Nano. Sold on ebay by members of the forum also.
And no, you don't have to connect a USB drive, if you're not going to record.
I'm running a S9, but no longer recommend it, only because my Pansat9200 died a few months before the microHD came out.

If you get the microHD you will be very happy.

Thanks for all the help, the microHD is the way to go. First I need to check my dish alignment.

Does not get any better than an Azbox...Premium plus,Premium,Ultra or Elite...Getting hard to find now a days.....That MicroHD looks good also.
