at prices like $9 month, the days of old paying $10+ dollars a month for a channel is gone.

I notice Dish now has many under my account as $10 special price, but to be honest, they are going to need to make $10 the permanent price.

I think the premiums for $5/mo or half price offers are going to need to continue as well. At least, if Dish wants anyone to buy it from them instead of going direct streaming.

Yeah, the 6.50 for six months is quite common.

I'd be happy if they started at $10 a piece with a staggered discount rate. I just add them as needed for shows I really wanna see, like GoT. But me paying $15/month is GONE.

I never payed $15.00 for any of the premiums. I either got it for $9.50 now $10.00 for Hbo or 1/2price or free. None of the premiums ,including HBO is worth more than $10.00 a month, period.

I've paid a lot more than $10 for premiums over the years between Dish and Directv. $10 for HBO wasn't always something you could just simply get, but I don't call up and threaten to cancel every week either.

This also isn't a thread about deal discussion in general, it's about how the normal set price for premiums needs to change since they are offering their product in an app form for cheap.

Here are some examples:

Last summer I had 3 premiums for $35/month. In Sept, once the HBO deal was out, I had HBO for the $10 "special price" and $14/month for Showtime.

The premium providers are now offering direct access:

Showtime $11
HBO $15
Cinemax on Sling for $10
Starz just launched one with offline viewing at $8.99!

Currenty, under my account, this is what it shows:

HBO "special offer" $10
Cinemax "special offer" $10
Starz "special offer" $10

I currently have Showtime at 7.50 for 6 months, which at the end goes to $15 (they have lost their damn mind). IMO, the "msrp" of these channels needs to hit about $10, with a reduction for each one you sub to at the same time. Maybe $10 for one, $19 for 2, $18 for 3, or maybe something more aggressive. There is no point to paying DIsh $10 for Starz when they offer a download service for $8.99.

You can get Starz for $5, not sure about Cinemax.

You are missing what I am saying. I am not talking about deals, I am talking about what the average user sees when they login to their account. And how about stop offering me deals when I go to cancel a channel because there is no more premium content on that month I want to see (original programming). I think the system is antiquated now with the big 4 offering streaming options that don't require Dish or Directv. How about let's try something new, just offer each channel for a great up front price I don't have to play games to get.

It's almost amusing, add the channel for 30 days at X price, and watch say the first 4 weeks of Homeland, or Billions. Then go into your account and try to cancel, and they offer you a deal to keep it (50% off). Now you get the rest of your Homeland current season episodes for a deal. Why didn't you just give me a decent price to start with?

I'm someone that has generally carried around 2-4 premiums most of the year for many years. The game is tiring, just give me a good deal especially since you aren't the only game in town with the product (streaming standalone apps).

You can get the deal for the first month by starting a chat...

Right over your head. I keep explaining it has nothing to do with the deal you can try and get.

Lets make this one simple.

The standard prices should be lower because the value of the product has been diminished. Therefore you should not have to jump thru hoops for a better deal.

I wish that they would just let me continue on at $7.50 per month for Showtime. For the last two years I have had to wait until the date that the 50% offer expires then click cancel Showtime and then be offered 50% off for 6 months again. They have done it four times in a row so why can't they just lock it in at that price? I guess that they are hoping I'll forget to jump through this hoop and pay full price for a while before noticing.

You keep saying it's too high and they should offer a better deal.

I keep saying they do and it's a quick and painless process.

Which is the least liked of the three services? HBO, Showtime , or Starz? My guess is most people would say HBO is the best, but which is the worst?
I personally think Cinemax is the worst. Just for the simple fact that HBO plays the same movies.
HBO is my Favorite,
Then Starz/Encore
Showtime
EPIX
CINEMAX.

I watch very few movies on any of the 4 Premium channels. I do watch many series on them though. Things like Game of Thrones, Shameless, Black Sails, and Banshee...

Got on chat yesterday, since GoT is coming, and asked if there were any deals. They said sure, $10 a month.

No, thats not really a deal because that is what is advertized in my account online... It's also not a bad price for HBO, just not sure I even want to pay that much anymore since I have a Netflix rental account.

I don't blame Dish for this necessarily either, I mean they have a rate they have to pay HBO for it as well. The whole pricing structure doesn't work anymore, even at $10 month when I can just wait and get the whole season on Blu-ray from Netflix (cheaper, better PQ, better audio). I'm on the fence of not even starting GoT season 6 and waiting for it to hit rental next March. And as Banshee and Billions end, dropping both of those channels too.

Once you get on a rental rotation, with the year delay, it would not be a big deal.

$10 is a deal because it used to be $19 and the streaming package from HBO is $15

I know, I've paid $19 before. Did you also read where I stated it wasn't a bad price for HBO, and then my reasons for it not being good enough with today's options? The premium channel process is broken.

Look at it another way. With redbox, netflix rentals, netflix watch instant and amazon prime, what the hell is the point of multiple HBO channels? just about everyone I know has moved to the app or just uses the main channel for sports and original series. I know it is forced on you in packages, but people complain about ESPN but HBO and it's counterparts are worse. You pay an overpriced fee to get an episode a week of an original series, and then they throw all these useless channel versions at you (some in SD).

Now Starz is going to offer offline watching and an app for $8.99.
