I'm currently a directv customer and I'm relatively happy with the service. Switching to dish would save me some money. I've made two attempts and both were failures. In both cases I requested a specific receivers 722k and 211k with ota module for 722k. The first time, installer called and told me that the order doesn't list 211k but 211. I called dish and I was told that I cannot get 211k. Order was canceled.

I sent email to Claude with Dishstore and asked him about this set up. He told me that this can be done. So, I placed the second order with Dishstore. Not only 211k was not listed but also ota module was missing from the order. I called Dish network and an account specialist told me that thay do not offer new receivers to new customers. WOW. Order was canceled.

I'm done with dish. Now, I know why they loose customers.

why not purchase the STBs you want instead of leasing them.

There is a reason the E* doesn't give brand new STBs to new customers... there is no history built up... and with the tech/equip/and processes that they use they don't see any profit from a new customer for 25 months (avg)...

If you purchase the STBs then you don't need a contract and you can resell them later.

I didn't realize that new customers don't get new receivers, but when I was with cable (Insight and then Comcast) every receiver or DVR I ever got was used. If I don't own the equipment though, then I couldn't really care less, as long as it works.

That being said, I've been a new customer with Dish twice :D and I've never had much problem ordering, and I've also helped several family members/friends get Dish and never experienced any significant drama.

Technically, I think Dish did not lose a customer--they just lost the opportunity to gain one. I appreciate the fact they're reserving the "k" machines for current customers with proven loyalty. Personally I like my ViP 722. For me adding the "k" would be like adding the frosting on the cake--nice, maybe, but cake is still cake.

I was given two 722k's as a new customer.

huh, i install new receivers for new customers all the time. whatever i have on my truck is what the customer gets...as far as new vs reman goes.
lately i've been carrying all new hd k receivers.

You really need to call me at the office and we can escallate this and get you a "K" series receiver.

The issue is not with the person who took the order or with Dish network, its with the installer not having the "K" series equipment in inventory.

You got to keep in mind that 99% of the customers who sign up for new service don't really care exactly what model equipment they are getting, so thats why the installers can get away doing this.

When I sell a customer a standard definition customer a Dual Tuner DVR, the installer could show up with a 522, 625, 622, 722 or 722K and the customer would say a word as they where told they where getting a DVR that will work on 2 Televisions.

When we place the orders in the system, here is what it says...

211K "HD Solo Receiver" and then it goes on and asks if the customer wants to purchase the OTA Tuner for $29

722K "Enhanced HD Duo DVR Receiver, 2 Way Remote" and after you select it it asks if the customer wants to purchase the OTA Tuner again for $29.

I see your point exactly why you would want the latest and greatest equipment available, and when I place the order in the system this is exactly what we specify on the order. My Job was done correctly.

The whole problem is that a 211 can be subsituted for a 211K, and a 722 can be subsituted for a 722K depending on what the installer has in inventory at the time. This has nothing to do with being a new customer, because an existing customer requesting a 211K could run into the exact same issue and get a standard 211.

To be honest with everyone, I generally don't have this issue. I think I ran into this issue twice in the past, and we have been easily able to correct this by escallating the order through my area sales manager and they got with the installation company and made sure they had the exact model equipment the customer was requesting in inventory

The third time was a charm. I ordered through Dishstore and this time equipment that the installer brought was correct (thanks Claude). OTA module is working fine. Majority of the channels come at the same signal strenth as with Directv AM21 tuner. One channels is stronger and one channel is weaker. AM21 also splits signal internally to two tuners.

I do have some questions.

1) what is good signal strength from conus transponders from 129?
2) is there any way to bring progress/status bar while playing a show other than pressing pause (pressing play would do it for directv receivers)?
3) is there any way to exclude channels that I don't get from search results?

It depends on location, the transponder, whether spot beam or not, and alignment. I get 50-70, depending.

Press Cancel button.

3) is there any way to exclude channels that I don't get from search results?

Don't know about this one.
