I'm a new customer being ripped off

No different than manufacturers and stores offering coupons instead of just cutting prices. It sounds great in the ad to "save $100" on a TV, but in reality only 20-25% of the people buying will bother to get the rebate.

I understand but this hurts DirecTV more than it hurts manufacturers. When you buy a tv, you aren't signing a contract. DirecTV should simply give the discounted rate without rebates and aim to keep people happy rather than trying to scam into some extra money because people don't pay attention.

From a customer service perspective, the rebates are a bad idea IMO

All rebated are, the are designed to work that very way, hoping the customer will fail to send them in.

if a customer-to-be doesn't like rebates and how they work, all they have to do is PASS ON THE OFFER; otherwise follow the rebate rules. there is no ripoff, unless you follow the rules and they fail to pay off.

It's now over two days since the poster, a first time poster at that, has come back to the thread. Sounds like a hit and run to me.

Or the OP was scared off by the bullying Scott warned about a couple weeks ago

Bullying? Hardly. The op made one post and never came back. Several other posters offered a possible solution. If the presumption by many of a rebate problem is incorrect, he should have clarified what the real issue is. He hasn't done that.

the OP never came back after his post so he hasn't even read anything posted in this thread.

Who cares? First-times posters don't get off the hook when they come on bashing DirecTV? What do they expect? If a user, whether they have one post or hundreds, doesn't follow procedure, and then complains they didn't get something because they failed to do so, they shouldn't expect sympathy.

We appreciate the lecture, though.

Agree and same goes for everyone that falls into that category.

I work for the company that does tech support for DirecTV, now we're able to submit some rebates for customer's, usually the main one for like $24-$26 off but not the online one for $5.

No, but it's nice if you ask a question and others answer you, that you could respond so we know if the solutions worked for you.

I agree with you. However, within an hour of the original post, the OP was already, in essence, being considered an idiot. Granted the original post was inflamatory, it seemed to be written out of frustration. The first few posts were helpful then the tide seemed to turn and attack the OP.

Satellite Guys is a great resource, especially for people like me who like to dabble but are not professionals or enthusiasts. It seems for the last few months the environment has been getting more hostile. Satellite Guys doesn't seem to be the friendly place it used to be. :(

just because this first time poster came in bashing directv doesn't mean we should return the favor. some of you have forgotten or ignored what Scott asked of all of us not so long ago about applying the golden rule. the op came in frustrated and looking for an answer to his situation and i think he got his answer. he has not persisted in bashing directv which would've made him a troll. you vets don't seem to remember that at one time you were newbies as well and wouldn't have appreciated some of these responses. this isn't what this site is about. here we HELP others and try to make the newbies feel welcomed. and since this thread seems to have run its course i'm closing it.
