I am forced to use IE 9 at work and this new site is painful to look at. Threads have the subject line vertical with one letter at a time. Lots of unused white space all over the screen.

I can just say that compared to the old vbulletin that worked quite well here, I may have to only get on at home with a more up to date browser if the compatibility is not resolved.

I will try to get some screen shots to assist you if you cannot reproduce.

My computer at home does this too with IE. Had to use Chrome instead to be able to use it. Not sure what is causing it. I used to browse another Xenforo forum with IE and it worked fine.

It should be compatible with ie 9 however they say it is not compatible with IE8.

Make sure you have compatibility mode turned off. :)

So they don't want anybody using XP to be able to use IE, guess its good that I use chrome.

Heck, Microsoft doesn't even want anybody using XP. IE is crap anyway. Chrome/Firefox all the way.

Site looks OK in IE11, but better in FF 29.0.1. Then again practically everything looks better in FF.

I find myself using Safari more and more. I'm tired of all the FF crashes and Chrome security concerns.

Safari is alright. FF rarely crashes for me.

When you say it is compatible with IE9, what exactly does that mean? I can "somewhat" make out threads but as for a compatibility mode option within IE9 I have not found anything to either turn on or off. It works just fine with my Safari browser on my Macbook Pro at the house, so I may just have to abandon Satguys at work now. It really is painful to try to navigate with IE9.

Maybe use a usb stick with a copy of Firefox portable (if it's still made)?

I work in a secure environment and we are forbidden to plug in any unapproved usb devices into our workstations. They also forbid any installations of any other browsers and actively scan our workstations to find anything. It is what it is.

Something I just noticed...

Most of the DIRT staff are using IE8 and they are viewing the site fine. I wonder if they (your work) is blocking something else? Out Javascript files are now being served from Google instead of our own CDN servers.

This could have something to do with it.

I show nine sites that IE7 is blocking on the main page. One of them is a Google site (account.google.com/PostMessage or similar).

IE8 blocks 17 websites on the main page.

I have compatibility view turned off and there are no filters on my Internet connection.

Are there any special templates/styles/skins that the mods run?

Obviously, this problem is only going to get worse as time goes on so I suggest setting up some sort of VNC or RDP session with an off-site computer for those who are restricted at work. I think UltraVNC has a java-based front end if you can't install software on the local machine.

Do you know if cdn.satelliteguys.us is blocked or not? That is where our CSS comes from.

I can try flipping the Javascript CDN to Microsofts CDN servers instead of Googles. (I just prefer Googles as they are updated faster.) :)

I want to echo the concerns here - since the changes at sat guys, basically unusable on ie9. This is the only website I visit that has these issues. Pic attached.

Clear your cache. Make sure you don't have ad blocker on and make sure cdn.satelliteguys.us is not blocked. (Thats where the CSS comes from.)

Check, check, and check, Scott. Given the folks chiming in here, it seems like this is more on the developer end and less on the user end. Although there may not be too many of us on ie9. It would be really nice if the web developers could give it some attention.

I have a machine stuck on IE9 (runs vista). I do not browse here though using it, I just use chrome on it.

That ship sailed in the Fall of 2012 when IE10 was introduced.

Using just about any non-Microsoft browser is probably the best option if you're running Vista (or pretty much any other Windows version >=XP).

Supporting Microsoft in their quest to subvert the World Wide Web isn't doing anyone but Microsoft a favor.
