Trying to hook up the 4 unidentified dtv sat lead to a 5X8 multiswitch. Does it matter which lead goes to which input? If yes, how do you determine what is the A, B, or C leads?

Thanks!

Provided that the dish you are connecting to is a PhaseIII, it will not matter. If it is a DirecTV Plus/Para Todos Dish or GainMaster, you will need to tone them back and identify them.

It is a DTV Plus-How does one "tone them back"?

Thanks

it doesnt matter wich of the four goes were just as long as the 4 sat leads go into the 4 sat inputs the antenna input is for an off air antenna

If it is a Phase II or Para whatever it was (the predecessor to Phase III), it DOES matter which lines go where, as the multiswitch has to distinguish between 0 and 22khz output for the LNB's

The Phase III multisiwtch that is built in handles this.

moving to DirecTv form

does it have 2 lnb's (eyes) or 3?

If its 3, then its a Phase III

Not necessarily. There are/were some 3 LNB dishes without the integrated multiswitch, usually appearing as three separate LNB units on the front of the sat. After the launch of 110, they sold "Sat C" kits to add the 110 LNB in between the 101 and 119 LNB's. On these arrangements you had to run to the correct type of multiswitch. They then built them with three LNB's before creating the Phase III.

I would say if there are three LNB's in a single head unit, then it is most likely a Phase III, but there are still some older styles floating around (eBay?)

The older Phase II dish with two or three LNBs probably has the multiswitch and Sat C combiner attached to the back of the dish. In this case, the four outputs of that switch can be connected to a 4x8 or 5x8 cascadable switch in any order.

Just a Clue, Fox-hd is back up in engineering mode on Directv

HELP! Is this correct way for hooking up a multi-switch?
