As Scott has mentioned, the DVR is close, despite the lack of official information from VoOm.
As a company, VoOm seems to be interested in sending signals that it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In the spirit of that, why not institute an early sign-up program for the DVR for existing customers?
This would satiate, even if slightly, the rabid hunger for the product among current customers, and it might even encourage a few of those waiting on the DVR fence to sign up now so they can get in line.
It would also provide VoOm some instant market research, helping them to gauge interest in the product, so they will have some idea what kind of production will be needed when they finally unleash the beast.
I'm definitely not talking about a full-fledged pre-order, just a reservation in line when it's ready to release. I don't think anyone would be willing to send real money to a company that's teetering for a product that's - so far - vapor. They needn't reveal the pricing structure now, since no money is changing hands, and no committment to buy or lease is being made.
If they really want to reward loyalty, ordering priority could even be determined by a customer's original VoOm install date.
