Well, I was bound and determined to get this motor problem taken care of. I have a new motor enroute from Sadoun ($1 auctions - bid before I had this problem), and it hit about 50 today, so I figure I want to give it a try again. So, hauled all the gear out, remounted the dish, tweaked everything, signals on my tss looked great. Punched in G10, and 11720 was coming in at 60-66%. Went over to 43w, and it is booming in at 53-60%. It was in the 40's. SO, I thought, let's se if we can get 30w. YEP! I got Hipasat at 33-40% on the high tp's, and 33% on the low! Hipasat is a cool bird! Looks like the dish is pointing at the ground, and I am not sure when the leaves come out on the neighbors tree if I will still be able to get it, but I got it! So, to sum it up,I realign/tweaked the motor/dish for the 3rd or 4th time, got everything back and got it back stronger, and I gained 30w!

Hey that's great you got it fixed. Hispasat is a neat bird, don't know if you can reach Telstar 12 or not (15 degrees) it also has some real powerful transponders, Al-Alam has beautiful pictures. Reading your thread about your problem has given me spring tune up fever, ordered a few lnbf's today, hope to tweak a few more db out of the arc:)

I was only able to move my motor via disqec 1.2 a short way past 30w. So I am pretty much at my limit. I still have a spare Primestar to play with, but I am not sure I have a good LOS for anything past 30w. Might have to fiddle this summer :)

Congratulations Iafirebuff ............
I'm really glad that you're hitting 30.0 West
Now you can watch FIDEL and all the goodies they show in the PM.

As to the neighbors tree , I hope it doesn't cause Loss of Line Of Sight come Spring and Summer , I have a similar situation with 129.0 West , I lose signal when the leaves come out on the neighbors Maple tree ( I dislike the tree because every year I'm on a ladder cleaning the muck of seeds in the gutter).

Thanks! It is hard to tell if the tree will interfere or not. It is kinda hard to tell the angle as by looking at the dish, I would think a person is crazy if they told me they can receive something with a dish pointed at the ground :) But, I only watched it a bit last night and all I can say is WOO HOO!

congrats!

Yeah the dish does look like its facing the ground :) So can you get the Superland TP (12175 TP)? Thats the one I cant get stable enough so I wonder if its the footprint or just aiming?

The tp 12175 - the one with TV Marti, is the stongest one I get on 30w. It comes in at 33-40% on my Fortec. As you know, lower than 33% gets touchy. Most of the TP's on 30w I get 26-33%. THe signal meter jumps fast between 26-33%, so as long as the weaher is good, I can get them. But to answer your question, yes I get 12175 nice and strong (for 30w at least).

Speaking of 30w, has anyone else noticed how good the video quality is on this satellite? I think the crispness and color is almost the best of any of the satellites up there. I really like this bird!

TV Marti is on 12172 H...Superland is on 12175 V and that is the one I'm talking about :)

Tony -

I can only get a 20% signal on it. It shows locked, but it is a no go. That is with my 80cm. Prehaps a larger dish could get it.

maybe. I'm using a 37x27 and I get it at a 28-30 which barely locks but very pixelated. Mike Kohl shows it as "very weak signal" and he's probably using a bigger dish than we have

Superland and Supershow are very weak , I'm using the Fortec 90cm , I lock it in 66% well enough to watch but it doesn't take much ( Overcast ) to start losing quality.
Other weak signals I recall are Playing TV and Solo Tango.

For a while there were soccer matches in the clear that showed up upon blind scan , they had $ some of the time but ITC , now I have no idea seems they finally encrypted or no matches are being shown.

In the last year I've seen a few new additions to the Hispasat Channel Lineup , RTPA part of the TVE Digital Package MUX and Canal Habana and ACN on The Cuba MUX.

Came and Gone are TV Libre I believe out of Paraguay and a Brazilian Channel that was decent (non-Religious) , another Canal Salta has been erratic ,

TV Marti has a second Audio Channel that plays Radio Marti.

There are also wild feeds for just about anything , Sports , News , Press Conferences , no usual time , I would say in the afternoon is your best shot.

Last week a new channel popped up , it looked promising but dissappeared , scanned in as Encuentro 12180 V (Lyngsat) , Ice .......... I think you had the tp listed (Argentina).

My FTA weekends are shot because of my Job 4-12:30 , so My finds are slim to none since my morning are spoken for ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ......... ZZZZZZZZ

To sum it up , Hispasat is a FTA Friendly Satellite with a European Flavor that caters to the Americas , Hispasat site is very informative and ACKNOWLEDGES the FTA'er as its audience , how many other birds can we say this about with exception of IA-5.

OK so its a given the signal is weak and the farther north you go the worse it is

I rescanned 30w last night and picked up about 10 or more channels than I had before. The dish sure looks funny - it is pointing almost right at my neighbors living room window - which is about 30-40' from my dish :)
